| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 24, 2007 12oz bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a larger sized tan head. Aromas roast, coffee, vanilla and very light caramel. Tastes of roast, coffee, and vanilla. Its not a bad beer, but I would have preferred a more in your face coffee presence (especially with Java in the name). CaptainCougar (5538), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 20, 2007 Bottle thanks to Duane: Pours an opaque black with a thin ring of spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma has some roasty malt and mocha coffee notes with a hint of tartness. Body starts with nice lightly sweet caramely coffee notes. But that gives way to an unexpected tartness toward a thinner lingering dark chocolate finish. Without the tartness, this would be a really nice coffee porter. Cletus (5060), Connecticut, USA

Smells of soy sauce, tarte, buttery. Tastes of fruit, some coffee, hints of sweet malt. JoeMcPhee (5056), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 7, 2008 Tap at HDG. Black pour with a creamy brown head. Loads of sweet vanilla on the nose. Mingles well with the soft milk chocolatey notes as well. Not a great deal of coffee in the nose, but there is plenty of it on the palate. Fairly nice sweetness, but it isn’t cloying. A soft roastiness on the back as well. Lingering sweetness. It might be a little sweet for my tastes, but it isn’t bad.
