My bottle (12oz) shared with garthicus, jerc & mabel. Pours a hazy deep amber-brown with millions of little floaties and a large frothy off-white head. Decent lacing. Aroma of toasted malt, mild sourness and some ’metal’ or ’bottle’ (I know what I mean). Flavour is toasty and sour -- pretty meh. Average bodied. Just O.K., at best.

2009-04-21. Very dark brown body with a big billowy beige head and lacing. (3+) Aroma of dry roasty malt has a bit of an underlying sour tang. (6+) Flavour of dry malt, light roast/toast and a similar underlying tang as in the aroma - perhaps starting to decline? Average palate. Bottle shared by Blankboy

Given the previous ratings, and this brewery’s reputation, I had low expectations for this beer. I was pleasantly surprised. The Aroma is caramlel malts, fruit, raisins, very pleasing. rates with the better dopplebocks. The appearance is also attractive, a nice brown/red color, off white head. The flavor follows the aroma, it is caramel, brown sugar, ripe fruit. The finish is low on hops, but has a slight alcohol burn. The alcohol is fairly well hidden in this beer, all things considered. The mouthfeel is medium thick, and slightly creamy. Good dopplebock overall, even if not the best in the style.

Dark brown with a creamy tan head that hangs around for a long time and clings to the sides of the glass. Sugary sweet aroma of ripe fruits and caramel. Very sweet flavor - tastes kind of like baked apples buried in caramel and brown sugar. A hint of cocoa emerges as the brew warms. Nice thick body with gentle carbonation. This one will likely become cloying by the end of the bottle for most drinkers (it was right on the line for me, and I am usually pretty forgiving to beers that err on the sweet side). Lacks the depth and complexity of the top tier Dopplebocks, but pretty solid nonetheless.

Draft. It is a deep, amber/brown. Definite fruit in the nose. Lots of plum, raisin, and malt. Medium carbonation with a chalky/dry mouthfeel. The predominate taste is boozy fruit (apple, plum, raisin), but the hops come in on the back end. It has a certain astringent quality to it. For the style I would say that it is just okay and you are better off with some of the higher rated doppels.

Beautiful pout, dark brown, tan head. Not a lot of aroma though. Flavor is sweet malt with a dry finish. A bit thin. All in all, not bad.

12 oz. bottle courtesy Naka. Pours brown with red hues, light khaki, fizzy head. Huge malt nose, caramel, toffee and raisin, brown sugar and molasses. Taste is sweet caramel with molasses, brown sugar and raisin. Slightly oxidized, but not detracting. Medium body and moderate carb. Not bad.
