Huge malt nose, caramel, toffee and raisin, brown sugar and molasses. Taste is sweet caramel with molasses, brown sugar and raisin. Slightly oxidized, but not detracting. Medium body and moderate carb. Not bad. ratman197 (3254), Arvada, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 21, 2009 On tap at my house poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan head and light lacing. Aromas of burnt carmel, raisin, plum and molasses. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, molasses, raisin and light plum with a smooth lingering bittersweet fruity finish. fredandboboflo (1417), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 8, 2009 Bottle. Aroma of sweet, nutty, earthy malt, dank hops. Flavor has some of these rich, authentic-tasting malty notes, but after a few ounces is overridden by a sugary sweetness that renders a 12 oz. rather difficult to get through. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small light tan head. Aroma of pizza dough. Flavor is malty and quite sweet (sugary sweet). Some wheaty grains too. This was an ok beer I guess, but a little bland and sweet.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 27, 2009 THOUGHTS: A nice beer when I was looking at it and smelling it, but then I tasted it and it was only OK. The alcohol is actually a little too well hidden for the style. This one packed an unsuspecting wallop. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark red that looked almost black in the glass, with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was heavy cookie and caramel malt, prune, apple, cherry, toffee slight smoke, slight cola and dark fruit. The flavor started out sweet and finished sweet with a little metallic bitterness and a little sourness of an average duration. There was caramel and toffee, some apple, prunes and cherries, slight hops. The fruitiness goes from sweet fruit to sour. Also slightly smokey. The medium to full body was syrupy with fizzy carbonation and a metallic and light alcoholic finish. f351c4v (408), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 18, 2009 Pours a deep, rich brown color with a small, tan head. Not a big aroma; some licorice, chocolate, and malt. Roasted coffee and malts mix with a lactic/acidic chocolate backbone. No detection of the 9.5% ABV. Slightly sweet finish, probably their best offering. brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jan 16, 2009 Pours clear, dark mahogany, with a quarter inch of off-white head. Retention is short-lived and no lacework.
Aromatics are a blend of rich malt, fruit-laden acid, and a smidge of caramel and chocolate. Strangely fruity for a Lager and the acid is very odd. Almost cherry-like.
Medium bodied and a bit chewy. Light carbonation adds a syrupy mouthfeel.
Tart fruit and rich malt lead off the palate.
Cherries atop balsamic drizzeled dough.
Bitterness is subdued as well as alcohol.
The fruity tartness lingers and the beer finishes with a frim acid grip.
What a weird Dopplebock. Either contaminated or I have no idea what they were going for here.
