williamherbert (461), Syracuse, New York, USA Aug 31, 2009 Well-bodied and glassy ruby red look. One finger of rose-white head. Nice, deliberate carbonation. Looks really nice.
Very very sour aroma, but in a metallic, cherry medicine way. Pure cough syrup. Downright unappetizing. Hint of grapefruit/citrus.
Severely sour malt taste. Puckery but not in a good way. Like a sweet tart dipped in Robitussin. Sour, cloying saccharine cherry. Not a good tasting beer.
The feel is creamy and fizzy. Good enough. Not a good beer, sorry to say. I could finish about half and then I had to dump the rest down the drain. Too bad really. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Jun 6, 2009 Aroma caramel malt, light coffiness, and vanilla. Flavor is a flat bland start with a pungent like bitter and light malt flavor. A beer that is not terrible but certainly isn’t my idea of a bock. It lacks the full body and sweet that I would hope from this beer. It was not infected just not very tasty Grandpa (325), Verona, New York, USA May 5, 2009 This beer looked really good. It was an opaque, dark brown with a large, small-bubbled, light tan head. The head hung in there to the list sip, a sip that took me almost a half hour to choke down. The first sip was bitter and a little thin, not the sweet, malty flavor advertisee. More hops than malt. Subsequent sips left a "tinny" aftertaste. The head held up and the tinny taste began to dominate. It looks great! Tastes bad!It will be awhile before I finish this six-pack. I hate to give up on anything but I’m afraid the remaining five will go down the drain. fly (1331), austin, Tejas, USA Apr 22, 2009 Fitting for rating 1313 - I generally ignore a drain pour, but since I see no Best Before date I think it’s fair that I say this foamed away, just like the pilsner, only worse - it was NASTY. Get the filtration right or date these. I tried to choke down a sip, but couldn’t get past what smelled like vinegar.
If I make it back to MI, I will try a fresh one for a re-rate. Ron (1000), Rochester, New York, USA Apr 3, 2009 Poured a small tan head. Dark brown with ruby highlights, and decent lacing. Fruity aroma, somewhat malty. Palate was bubbly, woodsy, sticky, sugary, sour, dark fruit, cherries. Interesting. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Feb 27, 2009 Bottle from Pat’s Liquors in Porter, Indiana: This has a clear chestnut body with a tall beige head and plenty of lace. The aroma is light - sweet and malty with dark brown sugar and mineral water. The flavor is much the same - and thin. Odd dry finish. For some reason, despite the sturdy ABV, this seems like a lightweight drink. tuco (2), Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Feb 20, 2009 Pours a reddish amber with a decent head. Aroma is that of a bock beer. Flavor has a sourness and a bit of metallic aftertaste. Was hoping for a bit more flavor out of this beer..overall not bad Elwood (654), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Feb 20, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Poured with a big, thick head that hung around for quite awhile. Deep mahogany color. Aroma had scents of sour cherries, slight metallic odor, some mustiness. Flavor tended to follow the nose, with big sour cherry and sour apple punch up front. You can’t tell the alcohol content is 7.5, but that’s because you are trying to get past the tart flavor. Some malt at the end with a lingering sour taste. This one still needs quite a bit of work to get in balance. I could only drink half a beer before I couldn’t stand the taste anymore.
