Lubiere (3324), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Feb 23, 2008 A hazy reddish amber ale with a thick creamy off white head, quickly collapsing. Aroma is very present, spiced, esters, and mashed beans. In mouth, light signs of infection in this lightly sweet malt, light hopping, and sustained astringent notes. Bottle bought by GRM on August 9 2007. Taste Feb 23 2008. HogTownHarry (3273), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Sep 2, 2007 Bottle (341ml). Via trade with Viper666. Pours a clear bright refractive deep copper with an average frothy off-white head. The aroma is of light dry hops and mild caramel malt, apple and appleseed, a hint of tea. The taste is still a bit of apple, but the tea is stronger and the malt has a soft buttery feel (for once it seems like a good thing for once) - gentle, but a nice amount of bitterness. Light body, astringency and carbonation, quick finish. I liked it quite a bit. Sammy (3135), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 24, 2007 Grapefruit colour with foam, head and lace. C-hop aroma. Good bitterness to the point of being a tad astringent. On the aggressive side of carbonation, though not bad. Medium mouthfeel. Fresh and an above average bitter style or amber style. Certainly more interesting than their regular bitter.
Glouglouburp (2006), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 22, 2007 Cloudy amber body topped by a short-lived beige head. Body is thin but pleasantly fluffy. Taste is toasted white bread with wildberries jam. A little caramel in the back but mainly I had a feeling of fruity sweetness. Some peppery hops in the finish. This is obviously not one for the beer-geeks. This is a well-brewed non-offensive amber ale with some commercial potential. Somewhat boring but still way more interesting than her blonde sister. This last comment applies to both the Bière à Doub Rousse and to Sylvie Lavoie. rederic (1444), montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 17, 2007 Hazy dark amber hue, with a thick beige head, but falls quickly, leaving laces, yeasty, fruity nose of prunes, raisins, with some toasted, biscuity malts, with a cookie dough accent, a light nutty note, with a faint spicy nutmeg aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, toasted malt character, with some caramel and toffeeish accents, a sweet nutty and biscuity dough note, hint of brown sugar, with a light raisiny fruity flavor, leading towards a malty, subtle bitterness finish.
