Comments: Simple, yet well executed dry stout combining a whisper of sourness to the chocolatey roast.
MartinT (4377), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Feb 24, 2007 My Bottom Line:
This simple stout offers chocolate and soy sweetness in a lean body made for large servings. However, in this bottling, an ashy component exists beneath the roasty suggestions and tragically builds with every sip.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam settles atop the opaque blackness.
-Smokiness and roastiness clash due to the underlying dustiness/ashes; the same problem was found in the weizen bottles I had over the Christmas holidays.
-It finishes dry and roasty, but this ending is not one of the beer’s most prominent features.
-The soft carbonation aptly conveys the malt’s message.
Bottle; no date. Radek Kliber (3332), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 13, 2007 Bottle 341ml
Appearance : Black Stout with very little light going trough. Small tanned , stoic top.
Aroma: Lovely roasted , meaty aroma. Smoky with plenty of proper character.7+ Flavour/Palate: Medium bodied , smooth . Strong smoked malt notes. Sweet soy character plays as filler here. Meaty a bit raw . Thin on the finish. I am not sure whether this was intended to be smoked stout ? Slightly more mocha roast or filling malt would be nice.
Extra notes: poorly designed label , cheap looking .Ingredients not listed
Lubiere (3324), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Apr 4, 2008 A deep dark stout, with light mahogany hues, and a classy dark moka head. Aroma is malty smoky chocolate with black olives overtones...something may be going wrong here. In mouth, all is OK, a bitter smoky chocolate, with light burn toast lingering in mouth. A bit thin, but overall pleased with this one. Métro Joanette, 1.89$ Rating 3000! HogTownHarry (3285), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jun 11, 2007 Bottle (341ml). Shared with blankboy, my bottle via trade with Viper666. opaque black with an average frothy brown head. Bitter, earthy roast malt aroma - woodsmoke, peat (almost iodine), balanced out by some soft herbal hops - the roast character is ultimately a little generic. Dry, VERY bitter smoked meat taste, quite a bit of roast grain and somewhat sharp peppery yeast in the finish. Average body, no much carbonation present, mildly astringent with a very dark roasty finish. Not bad at all - simple, a tad light in the body, but the smoke and the yeast make it stand out a bit.
