Bitter and acrid dark malts and fruits in the nose. Almost charcoal-like. Barbecued fruit? Opaque and dark brown body is topped by a low tan head that recedes to a thin partial cover. Flavour offers plenty of malt sweetness, dried fruitiness, cocoa, and lots of dark malts. It’s really sweet up front yet dark malts linger in the aftertaste. I’m enjoying it progressively more as it warms but unfortunately the carbonation is not lasting all that well and it was somewhat low to start with which leaves the texture a bit limp in the mouth. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Le Gobelet, Jan-08).

Sep 14, 2008 Bottle - 341ml. Opaque black body with a fair beige bubbly head. Decent malty/hoppy aroma with chocolate and roasted cereals hints. Taste is sharp and well balanced. It leaves a lasting roasty/bitter aftertaste. Without being a great Porter, this is still an enjoyable beer.

Aug 22, 2008 bottle labeled l’obscure. dark brown pour, not completely black. A roasty nose, some anise, and smoke. Flavour is full bodied, and chocolaty, maybe some notes of anise again, and some coffee. NOt bad, but i think would fit better in the foreign stout category.

Jul 10, 2008 Bouteille de 341 ml. La bière est de couleur brune trouble et possède une mousse beige qui décide de nous tenir compagnie tout au long de la dégustation. Au nez on découvre des arômes de pommes rouges mûres, de chocolat et de vanille poivrée. En bouche le corps est mince-moyen et on découvre des flaveurs de cacao, de vanille, d’alcool et de houblon moyennement amère. La bière fait saliver.

Jul 6, 2008 Bottle labeled "L’Obscure" from some depanneur. Dark brown/black with moderate head. Initially a yeasty aroma that diminishes proportionately to the dimishing head. Thereafter, more subtle yeast with with coffee and some dark fruit on the nose. Sweet and yeasty with feremeted fruit and coffee/roastedness. Odd sourish powedery aftertaste.
