The nose is a light bready malt and some stale corn syrup. I’m not sure where the hops are. One would think a hophead could pick up the Cascade, at least. The taste is sweet but old bread and some metallic bitterness. I wish I could say I drank this on a bet, but I did pay money for it. Luckily, not a lot.

Golden color with a decent light ecru head. Heavy sweet dough aroma with undertones of mild dry herbal/floral hops. Sweet maltiness envelops the mouth with a touch of corn as it warms. Quite effervesent, but just thick enough to prevent it from feeling like sparkling water. Malt gives way to moderate hops, a bit floral but not overpowering. Not a GREAT beer, but certainly a very balance and drinkable brew.

Bottled. In one sense, I was THRILLED to see this available again on my last trip to Chicago, it brought back so many memories. I remember back in the day (87-88 or so), in college, not having money, and being very happy that this was available at the same price as Michelob. It was SOOO much better.

2003. No, it's not. Much has been made of the "different recipe" but lets face it folks this was never anything more than a boring if reasonably drinkable lightish American lager. It seems very sweet to me in an artificial sort of way, somewhat metallic at the finish, really not any better than the typical A-B or Miller product. Guess I'd take it over those just because Stevens Point is still a "local" brewery. Not really enough reason to buy this, though.

Poured a light yellow color. The aroma is light corn and carrots. The taste has some carrots and celery. This also has some corn notes. Sampled at the 2005 Iowa City Beer Festival.

Bottle and served in my SN pint glass:

Wow, they still make this brand? I had to pick up the bottle in a mixer sixer (along with the 3 another Stevens Point brews I just rated and a GI IPA and Honkers) . Pours a clean straw hue with a fizzzy head and minimal lace. The nose is well... CORN and DMS! Veggie lovers unite for this beer is just for ya! If there is any Cascade goodness here, I am unable (even with my top notch nose) to detect any. Oh, there is some bready pale malt esters about, but so what. The taste is equally subpar, with a redeeming leafy and mild bitter quality. But geez, that veggie off flavor just killed any hope I had of enjoying the flavor found within. The palate is not half bad really, sort of refreshing with a lively and crisp note. Overall, this s**ks and I am probably being nice with my total score of 1.7, honestly. (What the heck was Dan drinking by the way?)

From a 12-oz bottle, picked up from Pick & Save in Marshfield, WI, pours a light golden honey yellow with a thin fast dissolving head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma is immediate skonk maybe a little citrus but even more SKONK! The skunkiness may indicate the green bottle does not block the sunlight. Taste is very highly carbonated, grainy and sour. Finish is gritty and sour. This may have been a bad bottle but I remember the Augsburger from Huber was much better. Interesting history trail of this brew... 1951 to 1961 - Monarch Brewing Co, - Chicago; 1961 to 1972 - Potosi Brewing Co, - Potosi, WI; 1973 - 1989 Huber Brewing Co, - Monroe, WI; 1989 - 1997 Stroh Brewing Co, - Detroit, MI; 1997 - 2002 (limbo); 2002 - present Stevens Point Brewery, Stevens Point, WI

This bottled brew poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized mostly diminishing white colored bubbles that left behind a transparent golden colored carbonated body. The aroma was astringent malty and hoppy . The mouth feel was tingly with a malty hoppy astringent flavor.

Dark yellow and active with a thin head. Tart and crisp, lightly fruity with tidy sweet malt finish. Not sure I could distinguish this from a Bud in a blind taste test.
