The aroma was a blend of malt and hops, some caramel sweetness. Nothing very distinctive. Light bodied and thin. The flavor was neither offensive nor appealing. Just a middling mash. (This may well have been last year’s batch put back out on the shelves by the liquor store.) Will try again and rerate if guaranteed it’s a fresh source. SledgeJr (2960), Omaha, Nebraska, USA

Aroma faint, but present with a roasted nutty malt. Pretty good caramel flavor, but not enough body to the mouthfeel. the Stevens point incarnation of this beer is not quite as good as I remember in the old days (1996) of the St. Paul beer, but then again, nostalgia is goodstalgia. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 4, 2004 Updated: Nov 16, 2004This beer kind of grew on me as I sipped along. To its credit, it’s one of the better American-brewed Oktoberfest beers, but I still have yet to find one that can hold a candle to a German Oktoberfest. In terms of price, it’s a good deal, but I don’t think it’ll make it into my fridge again, so long as Paulaner, Spaten and Hacker-Pschorr are around.
The aroma when poured is that pure, hoppy, almost earthy Oktoberfest sensation. The earlier tastes were almost too hoppy and very fizzy with undertones of molasses and toffee, but about halfway through, the beer settled in and I started liking it. In fact, when I’m done at work, I’m going to have another one. HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 3, 2004 Very clear and well carbonated. Light amber color with a small white head. Caramel malt aroma with some earthy hops. Flavor is typical of an octoberfest with toasty malt flavor. MaxPower (961), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 30, 2004 Clear copper color with a small off white head that doesn’t last very long, not much lacing either. Sweet bready, grainy aromas, light grainy and caramel flavors, finishes clean. Light to medium bodied with a crisp and carbonated mouthfeel, much better than I expected, a well done oktoberfest. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA
