Commercial Description:
Named for the 54 Colorado peaks which tower over 14,000 feet in elevation, our session beer is a spectacular copper hued beauty. The treatment of our water to simulate English hard water and the blending of several specialty malts and hops produce a delicate balance between aromatic maltiness and herbal hops.

Clear orange beer with a foamy off white head. Caramel malty aroma with a hoppy fruityness. Malty, faintly sour flavor with some hoppy bitterness and a dry finish.

2005 bottle from Liquor Mart, consumed on 11/19/2005. Amber-copper with slight auburn hints and a two-finger off-white head. Moderate retention and creates light lacing. Vigorous bubble trails show how fresh this is, and makes me wonder if buying this in Colorado vs. having it shipped out here and the purchasing it has something to do with the above-average appearance, relative to what I have experienced in the past from Avery.
Smells of floral hops, biscuity malt, light earthy dryness and notes of very soft caramel. An ever so slight touch of light oranges as well. Medium aroma strength overall. Flavor begins with plenty of citric hop flavor identifying it as an American version (surprise!), mixed with dry caramel malt and some light, flaky, biscuit-like malt. Yep, pretty much dry caramel and biscuits, a touch of dry earth, floral bitterness and more citrus than expected from the nose, though it more or less mimics the nose otherwise. Carbonation is, surprisingly, not obnoxious and overdone, nor is the texture as vapid as some of Avery’s other highly filtered creations. Medium body, light wateriness on end, no alcohol apparency. Clean.

Bottle. Pale amber colour with a medium off-white head. Malty, american hops aroma and a sweet bitter dry, hoppy taste. Medium body and a sweet bitter dry finish. Plesent beer.

12z bottle. Reddish copper hue. Good amount of creamy, tan head. Decent lacing. Good toasty malt nose, and a piney, oily hop aroma as well. Good malt roast, but an even better bitter, sweet citrus hop finish. Great taste, but still a little thin in the mouth. Bready malty flavor and then a fruity, citrus flavor, and then a dry piney resiny hop finish. Tasty...but still not as full as I expected.

Pours light amber with enormous, frothy, whtie head, mostly lasting, nice lacing. The aroma is light, slightly woody, slightly citrusy. The flavor is citrus, tangerine and grapefruit, mostly dry, some biscuity malt, quite refreshing. I think this is the first ESB that I’ve enjoyed.

A decent ESB with a nice balance between the hops and malt. Somewhat thin in mouthfeel but the flavors help compensate.

This is truly one of the worst beers I have ever consumed. The name- very slick, the beer- very shitty. Save your money on a 6 pack of PBR before you decide to tap the Rockies with this one.

Pale light orangey gold with a glazed clear body and slow rising carbonation within. Medium cap of dull white foam thats firmly fluffy sits for a brief while before it stays at its thick skim and fluffy thin collar. Nicely sheeting and thick lace coats the glass. Aroma is pretty solid for an ESB, actually about what I’d expect. Dry, toasted, with a great citrus squeezed sense of woodish hops and pine. Taste is well-balanced, always present, and active. Lightly parched grapefruit and toasted grains upfront, middle is wet and biscuity, woodish, and light earthy grains bring in a burntish tinge. Finish brings about another perk of hops as it grabs the toasty stuff and runs with it adding piney dried hops with just a smidgeon of dulled fruity peaches and lemon. Stays dry and tender with a wonderfully light toastness. Vienna malts seem to be the cause to its overall character. Yum. Feel is about medium to light but builds pretty quickly and boldy into the finsih where it really takes a great glide across a toasted, grainy, lightly, perfect, dry tone as it finishes. Wow, this escaped me for so long, glad I decided to grab it. Another Avery keeper. A very good ESB. And at only 5.1% this could be one to drink for a while longer then two or three.
