The aroma is very hoppy with heavy notes of resinous pine, grapefruit oil, iced tea and a trace note of lemon zest; Malty with light notes of toasted grain and cookie; Light woody/spicy note.
The flavor is heavily bitter, moderately sweet with a long, moderately bitter, lightly sweet and acidic finish. Long resinous aftertaste and some astringency hangs on.
The body is medium, the texture is syrupy and the carbonation is average.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 8, 2009 Pours a cloudy dark amber color with a thin off-white foam head that quickly settles into a thin lasting ring that streaks the glass with spots of soapy lacing.
Crisp floral hop aroma with subtle hints of citrus and earthy pine as well as a strong caramel malt presence.
Nicely balanced and very quaffable considering he high ABV. The malt backbone is a bit too strong for my liking but it provides nice balance to the dry earthy hops. Earthy pine and sweet citrus notes. Slightly dry finish. breadbones (5), Seminole Heights, Florida, USA does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 25, 2009 22 oz bottle. Smells pleasant, not at all overpowering. Looks like peach iced tea. Definitely near the top in taste for such a strong ale. Yeasty but not alc-y. Pine and bitters keep it from being fruity at all, to me. Lingers a bit like stale bread though. Awesome brew but tastes more like a Mondale in my opinion! cprochak (418), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Hop aroma has died leaving mostly caramel but some earthy pine notes. Only a touch of sweetness then a pleasant floral bitter finish. coldmeat23 (233), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

A golden amber tinted medium brown liquid. Two fingers of creamy light tan colored foam. Great retention and excellent lacing.
Good mix of citrus and pine hops. Big pine notes are combined with big, lush, tropical notes. Nice pineapple presence. Slight presence of caramel sweetness. Big grassy notes. Decent notes of yeasty bread.
It really smells delicious.
Not nearly the hop bomb that the nose had me prepared for. Still a good hop presence, just not as dominant as expected.
Main component of taste seems to be big, butterey, yeasty bread. It has faint traces of caramel on it. It’s been dipped in pine sap and some sort of tropical/citrus juice. The whole thing is covered in fresh, green, grass.
Feels thin, crisp and sharp. I like beers to be more full and lush. Lightly sticky.
Fairly decently drinkable, overall. Although, for me, I think that I prefer to smell it. acearl (215), J-Town, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 12, 2009 Amber/rust hue with light tan creamy head, nice lacing, smells of orange peel with alcohol, some citrus hop but covered up by sweetness and malt, tastes and smells like there is more alcohol than actually is, as there is stong metallic alcohol finish, nice complexity, almost a little bit like a barley wine and a hint of skunkiness. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 11, 2009 22 oz Bottle -- Pours cloudy burnt orange with an off-white head. Heavy citrus, and malt, with some hop aroma. Relatively sweet with the hops not emerging until the mid palate. Bitter back-end but the sweetness lasts along with it. arminjewell (108), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 5, 2009 Poured nice rich amber, with an off white head. Nose with good amount of hops, but taste of the hops was very covered up by the excess in malt, especially bready. Decent, but not the best. MesandSim (5912), London, Greater London, England

Too sweet for the hops to sing, too resiny hoppy to let the malt do it’s job. Nothing bad about it by any means. I just really don’t see what people enjoy so much. Sorry folks, crap rate.
