Pours with a dark brown hue with no head Aroma is of dark fruits, yeast, wine, with lots of alcohol and grapes. Flavor has a sweet beginning with an alcoholic ending - very yeasty all the way through. Medium texture with very light carbonation.

Notes from 4 ounce sample at Pizza Port Belgian Beer Fest in March 2009. Nice burgundy color wcith thin layer of head. Complex aroma with profound leather. Flavor is equally complex and nice -- tangy, rich, sharp. Some vinegar-ish sourness in the finish. Good stuff.

12oz bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Nicely dank pour, a dark brown soup with some clear champagne-like carbonation striving in its midst. Moderate head. Quite a bit of dusky funk in the nose, with some light oak and very mild tart fruit from the Zin I reckon. The mouthfeel is prickly, and the overall effect is dry dry dry. It seems underdeveloped somehow, though I can’t quite put my finger on what’s lacking. There’s also a weird vegetal thing happening in the finish, so I’m really not sure it all comes together. Earthy and sour, and certainly complex in its way, but I’m not entirely convinced.

Black with a creamy dark tan head. Chocolate oak and wine aroma. Smooth silky mouth feel. Chocolate grain white wine and oak taste with a pleasantly mellow sourness throughout.

Opaque dark brown, large beige head. Nose of rapsberry, chocolate, minor alcohol, and some brett, mainly in musty lemon and slight earthy barn/foot. Flavor is more tart berry, chocolate, a little roasted malt. Creamy body but moderate carbonation for a s slightly jarring combo. Quite good, but the base isn’t interesting enough to play with the brett and provide something truly stunning.

Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a thin, wispy-lacing beige head. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel and vinous tart fruitiness. Starts with good dark malty viscosity and sweettart vinous oaky complexity before a tart black cherry finish. Pretty complex and should age well, but could use a little more sweetness for balance.

Pours opaque w/ darkness. A tall lingering head is exposed. Aromas of sweet and sour gravel. Full nectar and very plush w/ creamy effers. Strong brett presence, under ripened stonefruit w/ grapey berryfruit intrusion. Only mildly sweet w/ brisk souring forward. A lot going on here w/ a lingering sour stain on the finish. Very intresting indeed. A strong flavored beer to be enjoyed slowly.
