| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 30, 2009 Bottle: Dark brown pour with a decent tan head. Nose has the requesite brettiness notes along with some sour cherries, grape, vanilla and oak...vinous. Silky body with some nice carbonation noted. Starts very dry and tart, leading to a mildly roasted malt and tart fruit finish. A bit of funky hay and and oak round it out. Very nice brew. Sparky27 (1596), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 29, 2009 Bottle. Pours deep dark mahogany with a 2 finger tan head that leaves nice lacing. The nose is barnyard funk, white wine vinegar and lemon peel. The taste is cheese, barnyard, oak and some faint lactic acid/sour chocolate milk in the finish. Medium mouthfeel. Decent, interesting beer. CptGreencoat (68), Kettering, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 29, 2009 Bottle. Pours to a very dark red-brown with an instantly forming khaki head. The Zinfandel is very present on the nose, as is fruity spice and a little oak. I’m mixed about the wine barrel aging. Part of me feels it clashes rather than assist the beer, but I also feel that with a little getting used to, it might be magical. Whatever the case, I’m glad I tried it, and cheers to Avery for their experimentation. xmarcnolanx (793), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 29, 2009 Aroma is butter, oak, cherry, barnyard, and lots more butter and oak. More lactic comes out as this warms a bit.
Very dark, oxidized cherry color.
Taste is very slick and some cherry and lactic, and some brett starting to come out. Bits of sourness.
Finish leaves me rather quickly, and a bit of slickness and cherry.
This needs time.
Aroma is great, flavor needs time. ericandersnavy (1063), crossroads, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 29, 2009 bottle thanks to bman1113vr and lumpy. poured a dark brown with an off white head. aroma of cherry and oak. flavor was cherry, a certain kind of funk, and was dry. light body with low carbonation. daknole (2940), Plantation, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 28, 2009 Bottle from Binnys. Pours a brown/reddish color with a small head. Man the aroma leads me to believe that this is going to be sour, complex, fruity and yummy. I get cherries, red wine, funk, earthy notes, oak, grapes, currants and brett. Flavor is not nearly as complex and sour as I expected. The wood seems to take over the brew. I taste some of the vinous notes and some of the brett. It hink this needs a lot more time. I would like to try it in a year or so. ditmier (1089), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 28, 2009 2009 Bottle - Thanks DrHomolka! - Pours a dk brown with a slight reddish tinge, and a medium, lasting creme coloured head...wasn’t expecting a dark brew, fun suprise, and maintains a great head and body even as it warms...aroma is big and bretty, tart oak, grape must...flavour is similary thick, heavy oak, nicely present phenols, bright fruit...those looking for an ass puckering sour will be disappointed, as this one favors finesse over brute force...I thought this was beautifully put together... mgermani (865), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 27, 2009 Pours a pitch black with a thin ring of off-white foam and nice lacing. Blackcurrant/Sour Cherry aroma (yum!). Wonderful taste - blackcurrant, light salty/buttery taste, light but unobtrusive wood character. Light carb with a chewy body - just right! This one is a real treat, and I’m not normally a bit fan of brett. Purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle - a sign said "Maximum 2 bottles per customer". I can see why!
