Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Batch 1 bottled January 2007. Dark ruddy brown with a thin tan head. Rum raisin aroma, caramel. Taste is brown sugar, citrus and red fruits, very bready malts, and a light candi sugar and yeast spice finish.

Hazy orangish amber, thin white head. Aroma of citrus, fruit, caramel, malt and sugar. Taste of fruit, caramel, citrus, sweet malt and a few other things, but I can’t read my darned notes. It was pretty good.

Pours a crisp burnt orange with a tall chunky yellow beige head that has great retention. Aroma has plenty of character. Caramel, burnt sugar, orange zest, lime, grilled peaches, citrus hops, a hint of pine, plenty of spicy hops, and some crusty french bread. Flavor is yeast, blood orange, grapefruit, a decent amount of toast, more bread malts, candi sugar, pineapple ham, dark dried sweet peppers, and though I didn’t notice it ’till near the end plenty of sweet toasty malt. FInish is yeasty and spicy with a little grapefruit and a sort of sorghum and dried orange peel aftertaste. Body is medium to thick with a nice warming alcohol and a sort of heavy oily feel. Not bad, but not worth the $7.99/500ml.

Bomber from College Liquors in Grand Junction, CO. Pours a pretty clear brown-red color with a small white head. The aroma is quite nice; fruit, Belgian yeast, some rich caramel malts, something very citrus like and sweet. The flavor is also nice; fairly dry, lots of yeast and spices, some light fruit, apples mostly, some sweeter caramel and sugars. Not bad at all. A nice brew.

Batch #2 sampled Nov 08. Pours a murky orange light brown with a small white fine frothy head. Sweet juicy aroma, some pineapples, spices, light alcohol, Belgian yeast and slightly toasted sugars, fruity. Loved the flavor, took me completely by surprise. Juicy pacific NW hop bite that compliments the sweet candi sugars, very juicy, nice light yeast, but mostly juicy pineapple and candi sugar, lightly toasted brown sugar, straightforward but delicious. Nice sweet yeasty fruity finish with pineapples blending perfectly. First American adaptation of a Belgian style that has something truly unique to offer and very well executed. Sugary mouthful, smooth medium full body with very smooth fizzy carbonation. Brilliant!

Batch 2. Bottle from Sams. This is my second bottle; I guess I forget to rate the first. Clear amber pour with foamy white head and nice lacing. Dark fruit aromas; some cinnamon and other spices (nutmeg? clove?); slight wood? Lots of malt that comes through as caramel and brown sugar. Nice, but not mind blowing.

Bottle of Batch 2. Light brown/amber pour with very little head. Sweet malty aroma with notes of dark fruit and spice. Complex flavor of malt, dark fruit, yeast, spice and oak with a touch of alchol in the finish. Creamy mouthfeel with nice carbonation.
