Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

Bottle of Batch #2. Pours orange amber with a thick white head that lasts. Fruit aroma of pineapple and citrus. Taste is sweet, tropical, decent body.

On tap@OBrien’s: Dark ice tea amber color with a wisp of off white head in the form of a halo. Smokey caramel sweet and over ripe fruit nose. Flavor starts rich caramel followed by cherry candy and ripe fruit syrup (apricot, peach). Medium body is smooth with moderate carbonation. A little overly sweet for my taste, but a good blend.

Had batch 1 & 2 side by side and there was not much difference. Cloudy gold appearance with fluffy white head. Spicy, yeasty, and sweet malts. Batch 2 had a little more hop flavor.

Pours a rich golden amber with a creamy beige head. A malty faint belgian yeast character and wheaty, caramel in the nose as well. Taste is creamy, smooth and simple with brown malt and yeast flavors. On the lightly sweeter side. Softly carbonated and medium bodied. Drinkable.

Slightly cloudy amber in color. Off white 2 inch thick head. Pleasant, mild, malt and hop aroma with a little stone/earthyness to it, and a little clover. Taste starts off sweet, quickly goes to slightly bitter, and sugar comes out a little on the finish. Somewhat of a candy taste, but not too much. Very enjoyable. Could use a little more bite to balance out all that malty sweetness.

Bottled on February of 2008, pours a hazy brown-amber-ruby with a 1.5 inch head and very nice lace. The aroma is of spicy yeast fermenting malt with some pine and grapefruit thrown in for good measure; maple too – OK, add some candy sugar too; grassy? The flavor is very maple, malty, sugar, roasted malt, yeasty, dusty hops, fresh hops, dark fruit, light fruits, caramel, OK, damn! – what else is there? There are many things going on here. The palate is alive and will not rest while you characterize it. Overall, I was not expecting so much here. I guess we need to go to extra innings (good thing I’ve got Interpol on the iTunes)… Warming brings out the sweetness in this. However, the hop show becomes more resinous. The yeast seems more hefty. What can I say? This is a good effort…

Bottled in January, 2007. Small fizzy ivory head that was mostly lasting, fair amount of lacing, opaque, no carbonation observed, and an orange brown hue. Nose was malt, caramel, dark fruits, sugary, some alcohol, yeasty, and spicy. Flavor was malt, caramel, sugary, lightly hoppy, dark fruits, vinuous but not overly so, and has a light spice and dry finish. Tingly, dry mouthfeel and medium in body. Quaffable, nice flavor, would be good on a cold winter’s night due to the warming sensation that sets in as it starts to warm. One of my favorite beer styles and worth a try if it’s one of yours too.
