Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

22 oz bomber thanks to JW77. Pours a hazed brown with orange hints and a beige creamy head. Nose is really nice. Lots of belgian candi sugars, doughy yeast, banana, and spice. Smooth carbonation. Sweet but balanced well with crisp citrus fruits. Toasted malts, yeast, and dough play well together. I hardly noticed the alcohol. This was a lot better than I remembered it from last year. Brew some more RR beers Avery and send them this way.

22oz bottle. Pours a deep cloudy brown with a small beige head. Nice coats of lacing were left on the tulip glass. Nose of Belgian yeast, clove spice, and alcohol. Flavor was much the same with an extra hint of chocolate and dark malts.

Moderate aroma of hops with some malt and grapish yeast mixed in. Hazy amber color with a medium tan head. Bitter taste that becomes sweet in the finish. Tangy carbonation with a light amount of alcohol. Light palate

Update on Batch 3. This is a much smoother version than Batch 1. Nice subtle nose with spices and yeast. Still very good. 22oz bomber. Probably my 4th or 5th bottle of this-just getting around to rating. This one has aged for over a year now. Strong, yeasty, alcohol nose. Taste is alcoholly, a bit tangy and spicy, chocolately, medium hopped with a nice malt background. Not anywhere near a typical Belgium ale-but there are no "typical" Belgium ales. More geared toward Adams Avery beers I would suspect. If my taste buds and memory serve me correctly, this is better fresh than aged.

Batch 2 bottle shared by Crosling. Pours a pale copper color with a thin off-white head that diminished to a ring. Nice moderately sour, funky aroma with some hops peaking through. Flavor really follows suit, with a sour/funky entry that leads into a crisp, lightly hopped finish that dries the palate. I really enjoyed this, and will definitely be picking up more when Batch 2 is released. Thanks for popping this Nick, it was great.

I have no idea why I have taken so long to pick this beer up and try it. Good things come to those who wait?? Pours a dark brown that shows heavy ruby hues when held to light. Head is off white. Nose is perfectly balanced I feel. Excellent yeast and sugar tones. Seems to be a touch of citrus on there as well. Flavor is very interesting. I have had Salvation by RR before, and I can tell there is some of it there, but I can tell that something else is cutting into it. Seems like there is a very minute aspect of smokiness. Nice levels of yeasty funk that seem interrupted by some invasive force. Feel has a good carbonation to it and the liquid is good as well. Overall this is a very interesting beer indeed. I personally feel like I can really tell that there are fighting sides going on here. Perhaps it is my past experience with Salvation by RR. I guess it’s all conjecture really. Overall, I think this is a very interesting beer. Definitely one worth trying. I should have tried it a long time ago.

I have not had these beer separate. Together they create a unique belgian strong experience. Light in flavor and very smooth. Poors a light white head with little lacing. Slight presence of alcohol. Finishes with a slight hint of maple syrup. Belgian fans might be disappointed.

I thought this was a decent beer, not really anything super special, a lot more hype than anything else. Having tried both beers separately, before trying them blended together. There is a very yeasty nose, with hints of coriander, and black tea. A very enjoyable malt background, with some overwhelming spiciness, slightly eschewed by the candy sugar sweetness. Slightly more reminiscent of the Avery model than the Russian River in my opinion.
