Commercial Description:
Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? "Hell no!" we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, "We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!" "Perfect!" we shouted. We celebrated deep into the night, (or is it morning?). Fast forward to November 14, 2006. After talking about it for over 2 years we finally decided to pull the trigger and Vinnie flew out to Avery to brew his Salvation exactly as he does in his brewery. This was blended with Avery’s Salvation December 11th, 2006. We hope you enjoy it as much we enjoyed brewing and blending it.

22oz bomber, batch 3, from grape & gourmet. pours a very nice copper-orange with a short, bubbly, off-white head and solid lacing. aroma is damn nice and quite unique with notes of belgian yeast, cinnamon, nutmeg, spicy clove, roast pumpkin, and hints pumpernickle bread and orange peel. flavor is great as well with big, dark, toasted pumpernickle malts, cloves, coriander, spiced pumpkin bread, walnuts, green apple, and orange citrus with hints of vanilla and caramel on the back end. palate is bright, spritzy, and medium bodied with a lingering, spice cake finish. overall, a very good, underrated brew from two great brewers.

22oz bottle. Batch #3. Pours a cloudy, dirty copper-orange colored body with a thin, off-white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a light lacing. Aroma is brown sugar and raisiny malts. Fairly sweet with a light caramel and bread too. A good amount of dried fruits, some yeast, and a light spice as well as a hint of tobacco smoke behind the sweetness. Flavor is more of the same. Sweeter and fruitier malts up front with some caramel. A light to moderate earthiness balances the malts and fruits well. I get a bit of a tart lemon, overripe fruit taste in the middle before raisins, dates, and other dried fruits come in. A light dough and peppery yeasty ester before some slightly burnt caramels come out at the end. A light woody dryness and soft earthy bitterness finishes this off with plenty of sweeter, Belgian malts and fruits that linger for a lengthy duration. Medium bodied with a lively, but soft carbonation. Overall, a tasty collaboration. Sweet and fruity, but not too sweet with a nicely balanced earthy component and plenty of typical Belgian Ale tastes. Suprisingly sessionable too.

22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a small fizzy off white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, Belgian yeast and dark fruit. Flavor is the same with sweet caramel malt, light hop bitterness and a light sourness from the yeast. Medium body with average carbonation and a tart finish. Nice strong Belgian beer.

Bottle (shared with Tweety)... Poured a hazy golden/amber with a thick, white head. Wonderful nose. Lightly spiced with a malty, bread-like base and fruity esters. Toasty, malty, and a lot of good spiced, fruit notes with a mild, Belgian, yeast funk.

batch 2. Smells like a weak barley wine with raspberries and other fruits present. Nice, mellow sweetness in smell. Dark orange color with a one-finger head that linders. Carbonation is prominent. Medium mouthfeel with bready palate. Flavor is very complex and sweet but not too sweet. A nice warming sensation. Very good beer. Will have this again.

BATCH #2 Bottled in Feb. 2008 Pours a clear, dark, copper color. A little more than a finger of fluffy off-white foam makes the head. Retention is fairly good. Lacing is thick and sticky. Big, sweet, malty nose. Hints of fruity esters. Nice presence of raisins and apples. Dark caramel notes. Candi sugars. Nice yeastiness. Brown sugar. Hints of citrus hops. Yummy toasted malts and some nice belgian yeast notes. Slight hops bitterness. Brown sugar. Apples, raisins and pears. Nutmeg spiciness. Hints of cherries. a slight touch of sourness. On the upper end of medium bodied. A nice level of creaminess. The slightly dry finish keeps it just crisp enough. I wish they would make this a year-round offering. It is very tasty and easy to drink. The almost 9%ABV is very well hidden.

Batch 3 bottle shared with JP, Adam, and Darrell. Aroma was of freshly baked bread. Appearance was muddy light brown with a large light tan head and moderate lacing. Flavor had hints of nutmeg, a hefty amount of malt and pretty decent sourness. Overall a likeable beer.
