Piney, herbal, grass, and dank aromas, nice but then oddly stinky like a cat box. The flavor starts out as more of the same and exactly what was promised on the label, brutally bitter, piney, good at first but then it shows a bit of pepper and garlic, parmesan cheese. I get the same flavor from Green Flash DIPA and I just can’t dig it. This is definitely a hop-bomb but the profile is just not for me.

It had a great piney smell, citrus flavors and was like a Maharajah junior. Easy to drink with a dry finish, I enjoyed this a lot. Even better was the news that they are going to bottle this beer!

Nose is drenched in pine resin and citrus.
Taste is all hops. Very light and dry body, hints of caramel, but almost all of the flavor is pine, pineapple, very resinous, very bitter, and tons of flavor from the hops. zeke626 (303), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2009 22 oz. bottle, pours a clear orange body with off-white foam head. Aroma of grapefruit and pine hops with light caramel malts. Flavor is initially grapefruit hops, then the resiny, pine hops come out. There is a light caramel sweetness throughout. Mouthfeel is smooth; medium-bodied. Bitter hop finish with a lingering bitter aftertaste that doesn’t become too astringent. nearbeer (1855), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Juicy pineapple, resin, orange, caramel and grapefruit aromas. Smooth, medium body is dangerously drinkable and crisp. Flavors of pineapple, grapefruit, caramel, with a nice wood and resin finish. bblack99 (211), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Very nice, Avery...very nice! Bomber pours a barely hazy orange-amber color under a sudsy finger-thick white head. Lacing is spotty and windowpane shaped instead of rings or sheets.
Aroma is unique, smells of tropical fruit (pineapple?) instead of the usual grapefruit. Of course, this is all mixed in with a heavy dose of pine. Flavor matches with a good bit of resin. Agree with previous rating, there is an oily feel, but the strong bite helps cut through. Almost no presence of ABV. Good balance here! Slightly subdued compared to Avery’s Maharaja. Great piney and citrus smell. One finger white head. Slight oily mouthfeel, with just enough lupulin to enhance the bitter bite. Nice lacing on the glass, and a long citrus, hops finish. I’m going to try against a DFH 90 Minute next go round. BVery (537), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Poured from bomber a medium coppery amber, formed huge head of foam in Duvel tulip. The smell of hops was apparent even before I tried to bring the glass close to my nose. The aroma was very piney and citric, as it should be for a DIPA. The taste was a showcase for the hops as the spicy, resinous, and citric qualities of the hops were apparent from the moment the beer passed the lips. The malts were in the background imparting a butterscotch hard candy like sweetness. Overall Flavour was fantastic, alcohol blended well, compliments all other characters. Superb, well made imperial IPA! glennmastrange (860), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Bottle. Moderate malt note of roasted, heavy pine and grapefruit for the hops, light soap for the yeast, with hints of pepper and solvent. Head is small, creamy, off-white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear light orange. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, watery with a soft carbonation and a lightly astringent finish. This is a top DIPA in my book. Almost everything I want in my favorite style.
