Very pleasant sweet floral hoppy nose. very mildly hazy honey-copper color with a very nice frothy off-white head. Start is crisp and citrus-like with some sweetness. Very roasty dry hop bitterness to finish. Almost puckering. Decent malts backing up the huge hops in this one. Well-balanced, if there is such an IIPA...Thanks to eyedrinkale for trading this to me. Opening the bottle I smell hops, pouring I smell hops, tasting its like resiny hops with a nice malty finish. I expected it to have a bitter finish, but the malt balance was a nice surprise. Much heavier in body than most ipa’s, a bit chewy. Tastes like you put a hop pellet in your mouth with some light malt. Nuffield (2725), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 29, 2004 Orange/grapefruit arooma, with that smell you get from cut-up frozen fruit served at picnics. Clear amber color, white head. Big bitterness...run of the mill double IPA? Tacky, dry, chalky. Decent enough, but not my favorite. Andrew196 (1091), Katy, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 28, 2004 Very small, oddly dark, head. Aroma was all malts.....east coast malts maybe???....almost no hops to speak of here. Despite its fairly low ABV, the taste flaunted insane amounts of alcohol. More malts, tons of malts, slightly counterbalanced by a mild, sweet hoppiness. The thing I love most about this beer is that it doesn’t taste like any other beer of this style....completely unique and original. A somewhat bad brew.
The preceding review is my account of this beer except that it was all a complete lie.....more appropriately, THE BIZARRO RATING! BeerLimey (1873), California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 25, 2004 Slightly hazed golden appearance, lively foaming bottle, needless to say good head. Aromatic pine, pineapple grapefruit aroma, the kind I could inhale all day. Punchy tropical fruit nectar palate, turning to mildly bitter, mildly acidic grapefruit finish. Not excessively bitter (not unbalanced IMHO). Excellent tasting beer, one of my favorite styles, but there are so many now that taste just like it. heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 21, 2004 Deep golden. Hopsa are floral, wome earthiness, and some exotic fruit. Decent malt character. Hop flavor is just not that appealing. A bit woody, with some solventy listerine notes. I like Avery, but the ten and eleven just haven’t cut it for me. urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 21, 2004 Fine IPA, sort of like DFH ApriHop without the woodsy hop quality. This has a terribly creamy palate and excellent whipped cream head. The flavor is hop-fruity, with apricot dominating. A little too much apricot here. Nevertheless, very nice and actually quite fun. | 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 21, 2004 This was just amazing. The aroma was straight hops and the taste was just that . An amazing beer that is well deserved of the high rating. Definitely something I recommend and something I will go back to.
