Commercial Description:
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

Nutmeg, toffee, and slight powdered cocoa nose. Deep brown with amber hues, and a medium frothy head. Chocolate nutty sweet malts, nice bitterness to balance--more than expected. Beer is well-carbonated, medium bodied, and has a smooth--somewhat crisp--finish. Brown Ales are not my favorite, but this one is excellent.

Bottle from the Beer Fest in Davis, CA. I was very disappointed with this beer. I was expecting a more complex flavored beer, but all I got was another typical brown ale. Nutty flavor with a hint of carmel. Average brew.

Tasted at EABF. Poured a deep brown with a pretty non existent head. Nutty caramel aromas and flavors. Pretty flat and bland. Not exciting as far as complexity or flavor goes.

Pours dark clear brown with a medium head. Aroma is mostly roasted malt with a hint of chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium with a good amount of carbonation. Flavor is very good, especially for a brown ale. Roasted flavors domintae with a nice nuttieness present. Just the right amount of hops balances the flavor nicely. Finish is smooth. A very good drinking beer.

Bottle - poured a rather chocolate brown with an off white head. Malts and some dark chocolate from the nose to the pallet. A little bitter rather chalky and sorry to say kind of empty. Drinkable but lacking.

bottle at Devonshire tasting. I thought this was an okay brown ale. Aroma of malt, brown sugar little bit of chocolate and a little nutty. The taste was very bland for what it smelled like and very bland for being a brown ale. It was almost flat. Very dark brown pour with nice brown head. Went down REAL easy. Would be a nice all night drinker for me. This one finished near the bottom of the tasting but was one of my favs of the night just because it was very unoffensive.

Poured from 12oz bottle a mahagony brown with medium sized tan head. Malty aroma with a touch of brown suger on the nose. Flavor is malty with a little sweetness, molasses, and a slight grainy nuttiness. There is very little bitter in this one just enough to keep it from being too sweet on the palate. Nice. I’d drink this again.
