Commercial Description:
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

June 2007 - Nice brown ale. Pour was typical brown color, nice head and lacing. Weak aroma of roasted malts. Good blend of roast, nuts, caramel hops...slight hop bitterness. Good beer.

Pours a clear dark brown with a small tan head that disappears fairly quickly. Aroma is subtle, but very malty and nutty. The flavor is sweet with a light nutty bitterness in the finish. Nice creamy feel but not too heavy. This is a nice, easy to drink brown.

I have never been a big fan of brown ales, probably because my first brown ale was a Newcastle, which I still consider to smell and taste skunked. This is a very nice brown. Medium thickness, creamy, with a good head. It has a creamy mouthfeel, oozes maltiness, and has very subtle flavors of chocolate malts and vanilla. This worked very well with the mushroom pizza made with mild cheeses that we ate.

Pours a clear dark brown with a fizzy tan head. Aromas of sweet caramel and chocolate malts. Smells wonderful! Flavor is more muted, but still good. A nice all around brown ale.

Sometimes I think my ratings dissapear. I definitly put my two sense in on this beer. Decent brown ale that pour a nice rich mahog color. Nose is sweet and malty. Taste is sugary and has a bit of a bitter and warming finish. Decent beer but nothing exciting.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with an beige head. Malty aroma, with caramel notes and some light chocolate. Body is a bit thin for a brown ale. Flavor is sweet caramel, nuts, and roasted malt. Pretty good.

Root beer or color of cola. Sweet inkling for aroma with hints of slag on the olfactory. Yes, certainly an ale, rude at times with a leathery palate. Interesting, with a bit of uncivilized offense. Overall a drinkable ale.
