Commercial Description:
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

Quite a lovely brown ale! Sweet and rich with some candy and coffee flavors. Carmel macchiatto?

Bottle: Deep brown, slight ruby, large foamy light beige head, sticky lacing.   Roasted malt nose, slight coffee, a bit earthy.   On the tongue there seems to be a bit of lactose, otherwise a roasted malt bang, with a shot of stale coffee beans and unsweetned malted milk balls.   Very soft notes of campfire or charred wood.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Slightly sticky on the finish, and even a bit dry.   Fairly decent example.

Bottle. Dark brown color. Caramel and red berries in both aroma and flavor. Sweet. Some herbal hops, with "Haagse hopjes" and a hint of licorice. Good beer, just a bit onedimensional.

Small, slowly diminishing cream colored head sits atop a medium to drak brown body. Aroma has timid semi-sweet malts that are slightly nutty, along with coffee nuances and light earthy and citric hops. Flavor is moderately sweet, with reasonable acidity and healthy bitterness. Toffee and coffee are the primary components in mid-mouthfeel. Palate is watery but smooth, mildly grainy. Medium carbonation. Finishes grainy and sweet, moderate bitterness lingering, along with subtle nuttiness.

Medium brown with red tinge, carmel colored head. Floral nose, smells like it could be kinda hoppy. While I find it very easy to drink, it has an unpleasant alcohol aftertaste.

Pours a clear, dark brown with lots of head and medium carbonation. Some initial lacing that does not last. Faint scent of roasted malt, but forgive me for my nose is a wee bit stuffy! Taste is not particularly full as it goes down, and only a faint malty aftertaste remains. I’m finding nothing particularly interesting about this one.

Pours a deep brown with amber highlgihts when held to the light. Head was a medium foamy/rocky light tan head that left spotty lacing. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, roasted malts, light coffee and some citrus hops. Flavors of light coffee, some chocolate, some caramel, more hops than I was expecting. A little thin.

Pours a darker brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, toffee, coffee, and some nuts. Thick on the palate with strong sweet malts, roasted malts, chocolate, a hint of coffee, and plenty of nuttiness. Picked up on a slight hoppiness on the finish. A decent brew from Avery.
