Commercial Description:
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

Dark mahogany with foamy, tan head / Sweet malt, toffee and roast nose / Fully body with chewy, creamy malts and hops and good finish / Smooth flavors of toffee, coffee, chocolate, cream, and nuts / An outstanding brown ale with a stellar body.

Surprising. Brown ales so often have a metallic zing to the malt, but this beer from Avery really dodged that tin bullet. Just enough hops to keep your tongue awake and chewy enough to keep your attention. Well rounded and just tasty.

(bottle) Dark brown body with brown head. The aroma is strongly sweet with molasses and caramel, slightly nutty. Flavor is sweet - molasses, roasted malt, nuts, coffee, and dark chocolate. Slightly bitter finish, but sweetness lingers in the aftertaste along with acidic taste.

Bottled
Dark brown color, small tan head. Chocolaty, hopy nose. Carbonated mouthfeel, softly hoppy with underlying toffeish notes. Light bitterness in the aftertaste. Tasty as a brown ale.

Deep brown pour, clear reddish hue, small tan head that fades fast. Aroma has floral malty aroma. Flavor is very straight forward, Nice malt, some hops, a bit more acidity then I like, a bit more carbonation then I like too. An OK brown.

Bottled. Beer is clear, dark ash brown. Head is average-sized, frothy, off-white. Diminishes mostly and quickly.
The aroma is malty with light notes of husky toasted grain, moderate notes of cookie; Hoppy with light notes of herbal thyme, resin/pine; Yeasty with a light note of basement, trace of slightly cheesey dough; Overshadowing moderate miscellaneous note of metal.
The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter with a long, roasty, lightly bittersweet finish.
The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively-to-fizzy.

This is a world class brown ale. Pours brown, smells of fresh walnuts and brown sugar, and cures a chocoholics craving in the beer form. This beer is under-rated and should be tried again by everyone!
