Pours a light brown body with a large, mocha colored head that lasts and leaves decent lacing. Average carbonation levels. The aroma is of pine, earth and sweet malt. The taste is very nutty and earthy with a slight hop taste towards the very end finish. The mouthfeel is slightly more bubbly than most brown ales I’ve tried, but there is no astringent setbacks. A good brown ale and seems clean enough to be a good session beer. beermouth (435), Langeskov, Denmark

Farily toasty malt aroma with light caramel traces and some brown sugar. Medium body with a good amount of carbonation. Taste has lots of roasted malt with some char. Finish has a bark / wood type of taste with some spicy hops. An okay brown ale. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 9, 2006 Nice roast beans aroma, coffee and baked beans, grills, shoes, summer’s dark side. Nice semitranslucent brown with short beige head. Roast flavors with vanilla and caramel. Very light hops finish. On the thin side in the palate, not quite enough there to support the roast flavor, but still, a fine beer. IrishBoy (2719), Bakersfield, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 2, 2006 From a 12 oz. long neck brown bottle with a blurb along the right side of label, no freshness date.
Poured a dark chocolate with a fluffy, rocky off-white head that slowly settled into a thin sudsy lacing, fair amount of laced sticking.
Aromas of toasted and roasted malts, grainy with a swirl of caramel and chocolate, a big nuttiness, lightly floral with a subtle vanilla.
Smooth, even carbonation and malty crisp and chewy, creamy medium bodied mouthfeel.
A nice malty taste, roasted caramel and toasted grain and nuts, sugary sweet from the crystal malts, touches of vanilla, a soft hop bitterness, a light fruitiness and a dry grainy and malty finish, good drinkability.
Another tasty brew from Avery, a good brown ale, worth trying.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2006 The beer is very dark brown with a tan head. Its aroma isn’t very strong (or perhaps it was the glass that it was served in) - toasted bread, nuts, sweet malts. The flavor is very drinkable - not particularly strong, a little sweetness, mild hop bitterness, some chocolate. The beer is light to medium in thickness of mouthfeel/body. It finishes a little sweet with hints of roasted malts. aerosol999 (113), Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 1, 2006 Nose: toasty, nutty, fruity, american hop, licorice
Appearance: Thick tan head, deep nut brown colour with red/orange tint
Mouthfeel: Medium body, creamy, chewy malt character
Flavour: Sweet, nutty, roasty, some american hop flavour but definitely leans towards a mostly caramel flavour balanced with roast flavours. Has a mineral character to it but not out of place - it counters the malt sweetness and leaves it with a drier finish than I would have expected.
