Aroma of roasted malt, hazelnuts, molasses and vanilla. PLeasantly smooth chocolate, toffee, nutty and roasted malt flavor with a nifty hoppy kick. The mouthfeel is just a bit watery but the finish is sweet, short and crisp. This beer reminds me of their New World Porter - especially when the hoppy kick comes in. A very nice brown ale. decaturstevo (1997), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 21, 2006 A dark brown pour with a decent off white head and a nice lacing from start ot finish. A nice sweet aroma of roasted malt. A nice flavor of sweet caramelly malt that says choconutty. A surprising finishing bitter that lasts a good while. A reasonalbly smooth palate that is just a tad watery but strong for this style beer. As this beer warms the carbonation changes and is a bit foamy. A good beer I enjoyed. lukin013 (211), Columbia, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 17, 2006 Dark brown with small tan head. Very appealing aroma of chocolate, nuts and malts. Warm, roasty finish. A very enjoyable brown ale. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 10, 2006 Slightly disappointing, with a smooth, but kind of sour, bittersweet chocolate flavor, with a fairly watery aftertaste. Nice nuttiness, with a dry roasted peanut thing going on as it warms. Finishes lingering, but overall kind of one sided. Quixote18 (230), Johnson City, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 8, 2006 Poured from bottle into a shaker glass, it had a hazy mahogany body and a short-lasting tan head. This humble-looking beer made up ground in aroma by having a rich, toasty malt scent balanced by some mellow hops that I could not put my finger on. The flavor definitely delivers on the toasty chocolate malts that the aroma promised. I thought that this brew was fairly smooth and easy to drink. It was full enough to coat the tongue without being sticky. hophead75 (1959), Boonton, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 7, 2006 dark brown with some ruby highlights. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, some fruitiness. Taste is about the same, thin palate, with a slightly roasted bitter finish. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 2, 2006 Bottle. Pours a dark copper body with a medium-sized, soapy, tanned head. The aroma is reasonably toasty, creamy hazelnuts, and some bread. The body seemed a bit thin and watery at times but others moments contained flavours of chocolate and vast nuttiness. Good.
