Commercial Description:
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

Lightly roasted, caramel nose. Reddish brown on color with a nice white head. Kind of a ruddy sugar flavor, some hazelnuts and light molasses. Definite hop presence to make it an American-type of brown. Mildly quaffable.

Poured very dark for a brown ale, more like a brown stout or porter color with a thin head and lots of carbonated bubbles. The aroma was mostly of roasted chocolate / coffee beans. The flavor was porter-like with a definite hoppy finish, too hoppy for my liking in a virtual stout/porter beer. This was lost between two styles and lacking anything memorable. Thick mouthfeel and again, carbonated.

Rød-brun øl, der ligner en god rødvin. Gult skum. Duften er humlet, sød, frugtagtig. Har duft som merlot vine !! Smagen er sød (brunt sukker), let humlet, og nøddesmag. Godt kulsyreniveau. Skal drikkes kold. Absolut en af de bedste lavalcohol øl. - Meget let drikkelig.

Clear, ruby amber, tan creamy head on top. Rich sweet malts up front, gentle hop character. Medium bodied, smooth yet plain. Late hoppy finish.

12 oz bottle poured a nice deep mahogany with a small, off-white, diminishing head. Some lacing. I smell this and am immeadiately confused. The hops are the dominating contributor to the aroma, and I don’t think that jelps a brown ale. Some coffee, but faint. Cat urine and petroleum fuel. Flavor is heavily bitter in the fore, especially for a brown, moderately bitter in the finish, slightly sweet, but just barely registering. Light to medium bodied, watery and thin. Metallic finish. I wouldn’t have been able to pick this as a brown ale blindfolded. Nor impressed at all. Drain pour. Bah. Rubbish.

Bottle. Nice tan head. Color is dark brown. Aroma is roast malt. Taste is chocolate and roast malt. Pretty close to a stout this one.

Clear deep copper “brown-ish” color with thin white head. Nice malty aroma. A combo of lightly roasted and highly roasted grains. Nice taste of roasted malts that hug your tongue with what seems to be a fine grain grit feeling. The caramel and toffee flavors are also there. A slight bitterness hits in the beginning as a background flavor behind the malts. The finish is mostly a sweet and dry malt mouth feel. Nothing really stands out with this beer. It’s good. But really, ho hum.
