zootfinster (151), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 30, 2007 All of the right things in all of the right amounts. Pours a nice dark brown. Chocolate, malt, nuts in just the right amount. Nothing overpowering. A very pleasant beer. I could easily drink way too much far to quickly.
JustinFromAL (48), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Jul 18, 2008 Updated: Jul 19, 2008Bottle. Mahogany color, frothy off-white head. Malt and hops nose. Very smooth. Roasted nutty malts. Very good brown ale, will drink again. KawaBomber (131), New Jersey, USA Jul 14, 2008 12oz Bottle: Brown body that glows garnet when held in the light. Huge, soapy biege head that leaves nice lacing behind as it recedes. Hops pop out at first in the aroma. Dig a little deeper & some maltiness is lingering behind the hops. First taste: Smooth, very well balanced. A little caramel/roasted malts & some light hops in the flavor. Just a hint of bitterness to the finish. As it warms a little coffee character starts to come out, but it’s also starting to develop a metallic finish, which I can’t stand...ugh! Other than that great beer. Tessic (365), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Jul 9, 2008 This brown ale poured a deep brown colour with a nice creamy tan coloured head. To the nose there is scents of ripe fruit, raisins, brown sugar and a little coffee? First taste was smooth and a little undercarbonated. Roasted flavour with additional molassass and brown sugar flavours. Finish is thick feeling and a little sweet. Palate is roasty and nutty. ChainGangGuy (1444), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 1, 2008 Updated: Jul 4, 2008Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish-brown body with one sturdy inch of off-white foam.
Smell: Predominately, it’s a nutty aroma with scents of powdered brownie mix and dark caramel.
Taste: Maltiness tasting of nuts and dark caramel with a restrained sweetness. Earthy hops with a mellow, though cleansing bitterness. Some chocolate comes online midway. Smooth finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Not bad! You done good, Ellie. Who’s a good doggy? Who’s a good doggy?!? Guinness4Duff (412), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA Jun 29, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown pour with a thick beige head. Roasted malt aroma with a strong earthy hop presence. Alot of sweet flavors up front with chocolate, coffee, and earthy hop tastes standing out.
