I applaud Avery for the attempt. I don’t much care for the result. The head, color, general appearance, mouthfeel are all good. The flavors are strange, with a real bump of biochemistry sourness early on. I wonder if a different fruit, perhaps cherry, would have created a better result. bu11zeye (5608), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 28, 2008 22oz bomber. Pours a golden amber with a thick white frothy head. Sweaty funky sour apple aroma and some other fruity notes. Slightly creamy, herbal, floral, and spicy taste. The pepper kicks in a bit more than the aroma lets on. Slightly sour, black pepper aftertaste. I’m not much of a sour fan, but this kept my attention while I tried to identify all of the spices fruits herbs, etc... I like the fact that Avery is trying new things and this was an intriguing offering from them. BBB63 (4257), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 28, 2008 Bottle and served in NB worthy glass: Slightly hazy amber gold with a fizzy head and some lace. The aroma has notes of herbal and grassy hops and spice, tart fruit, some brett barnyard funk and Belgian Candi sugar, and very peppery. Wow is this spicier than the nose let on, took me a few minutes to adjust then find the sour fruit and funk under it all. Biscuity and toasty malts before even more peppery and herb finish. Very weird but as I got use to it I seem to enjoy it more. The mouth feel is crisp and lively. A tad underrated IMO but I could see why. glennmastrange (860), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 27, 2008 Bottle. Light cereal note for the malt, moderate perfume and lemon for the hops and moderate barnyard for the yeast with vinegar, allspice, acorn squash and fig in the background. Head is small, between creamy and fizzy, white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing but is continuous. Color is hazy but sparkling, amber. Flavor is lightly sweet and moderatly acidic, then finishes moderately acidic and lightly bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery, and has a lively carbonation. Fruity and unique, but not much my style of beer. mar (1916), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2008 22oz bottle served in a Duvel tulip. Poured a pale gold with a big bubbled head. Nice sour aroma with some apple and a little sugar.
Fairly light body. Plenty of carbonation, spritzy mouthfeel. Flavor is a little lacking, some sweetness, a little more fruit. The Brett comes out in the finish. I didn’t get the figs. This one might need a little more time to mature and gain some more sourness. bobaidan (365), Farmington, Connecticut, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 22, 2008 Pours cloudy gold with a medium head. Aroma is slightly sour and fruity. Mouth feel is a bit thin, but there is a good amount of carbonation. Flavor is tart fruit, a bit of spice and a lot of earthy funk. The finish is surprisingly dry. An interesting attempt, but more like a failed experiment than a breakout new beer.
