Commercial Description:
15 years of brewing! You know what's been the best part lately? Tons of experimentation! For the last couple of years, we've been working with several strains of brettanomyces (wild yeast). We found one and deemed it the best for it's tart flavor and funky, fruity aroma. Adding black mission figs for a subtle jammy aspect, hibiscus flowers for an herbal bouquet and hazy sunset hue, and white pepper for a bit of spicy twang, we've created FIFTEEN - a unique drinking experience inspired by the wild farmhouse ales of Belgium. Though immensely complex today, more flavor will emerge with time, so throw a few bottles in your cellar for future celebrations. Thanks to all of you who have made our 15-year ride possible! Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops, black mission figs, hibiscus flowers, white pepper, and a very unique strain of brettanomyces yeast.

650 ml bottle. Pours a clear golden yellow with a minimal white head. Rich funky nose with a touch of citrus. Medium body. Complex blending of sweet and bitter notes with a good measure of wild yeast funk. Highly carbonated. Definitely one to let warm up a bit.

The pour produces a hazy gold colour with a sudsy off-white head. The nose has ample funk, sugary sweet malts, sweat, dirt, peppery spice and some wet hay. It is certainly musky and has an underlying apricot-jam aroma. The flavour is absolutely filthy, with wild yeast hitting you right away, later moving toward an even muskier and sweatier finish, that is crisp and short. There are flavours of citrus, wheat, banana/clove, peppery spice and FIG. The palate is thin, sharp and very dry in the finish. Different and nice, but a little weak. The finish is a little metallic, but it’s far more funky and dirty.

pours small fluffy white head . smells great wild yeast definitely present, hits of sugar as well. while tasting toasty malts are known but the underlying natural sweetness from the fig is strong .

Tap at Barcade. Cloudy yellow-golden brew. Aroma is quite leathery and bretty with an underlying brown sugary sweetness. Interesting cologne/muskiness behind the sweet light wheatiness. The aroma is really quite lovely as it begins to warm up. A light honeyed sweetness playing around behind the spicy/cologne brettiness. Flavour is lightly sweet as well with some light earthy hoppiness and a lingering funky/musky flavour. A bit of berry and lightly smokey flavour on the back as well. It’s pretty solid, especially for these guys.

Tap at Barcade: Hazy golden pour with a fading white head. The aroma has some decent characteristics of green apple skins, light vinous notes, white grapes, and a touch of oak. Crisp, light mouthfeel. Flavor is a bit less impressive. Some dry notes upfront with mild ’bretty’ hints and oak tannins. This is followed by a sharp apple skin bitterness, an alcohol flavor and a touch of acetone. The finish is peppery and tannin-filled. Not very cohesive or successful, but I do like the idea of a well-known micro-brewer making Belgian style brews with strains of brettanomyces yeast. I hope to see more attempts at this style from other US micros.
