BMan1113VR (792), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Jun 19, 2008 Pours with a small, fizzy white head that goes quicky. It leaves behind a murky, but bright pinkish cream colored body. A bit of lacing left by reminants of the head. Aroma is complex funkyness with currants, lemon, butter, figs, spices, green apple, and lavander. Taste is strong of hay, horse blanket and some plastic. Not a drain pour, but not amazingly inviting. Some honey and dark fruits NOT mixing harmoniously with the brett. That said it is pretty easy to drink, and the pepper comes on strong after a couple of sips. Dry mouthfeel with lively carbonation.
Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a bad beer, but it lacks anything interesting enough to justify it as anyone’s anniversary beer.
Dorwart (1601), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Sep 4, 2008 Thin head of bright white bubbles. Awesome carbonation which dances up the sides of the glass to reform the head. Hypnotic to watch. Light fruit and wheat in the aroma with a bit of tart raspberry and some spices. Color looks like dark apple juice. Crisp and clean palate. LOADS of spices in there. Lots of herbal notes, mint, juniper and some other floral flavor which I cannot place. Lots of strange flavors in there. Probably some flavors of things that you were not intended to eat. Rather light body with a bit of alcohol kick. Finishes spicy and fruity. Not really my kind of brew. Not bad just not what I want to drink. ross (1531), charlotte, North Carolina, USA Sep 4, 2008 Bottle which I bought locally. Jesus Christ this is probably the worst beer I have ever consumed from Avery. Smells like horse piss (not in a good way for all your lambic guys), and a little bit of sour notes. Taste is sour at first which is great, and then in about a half a second it tastes like a metal can that was dipped in vomit. This beer is rancid, horrible, and a complete waste of money. I usually praise Avery beers and think they are usually underrated. This one, on the other hand, is completely over rated. But I guess it proves that on ratebeer, if you put some Brett in a bottle of shit, it will get good reviews. This beer is an absolute drain pour. Aroma – Nice Belgian yeast aroma with a light sweet fruit aroma lingering.
Appearance – Orangish amber in, light head and clear.
Flavor – Nice deep rich Belgian flavor this was a wonderful brew. The fruit and malts and added hops where great.
Palate – Nice crisp Mouthfeel, good texture with a dry finish.
Overall – This is one of the best Belgian beers I have ever had I am sure this was a poor Belgian but I sure liked it.
radagast83 (1046), Springfield, Virginia, USA Sep 2, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a cloudy orange color. Aroma is spice, with notes of figs, and hibiscus. Flavor is spice, a lot of spice. After a few sips I started to enjoy this brew quite a lot more than I did when I first cracked it open. Suttree (2289), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 2, 2008 Cloudy orange, rocky white head. Aroma is defiantely Orvally, with a lot of funk and peppery notes.Flavor is also similiar to Orval, plus some odd sweet notes and herbal, woody notes. Peppery finish. Some medicinal notes, too. Seems a bit discombobulated, with a lot of flavors that don’t really come together that well.
