argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Jan 24, 2008 (22oz bottle) Large, rocky beige head atop cola black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, herbal, some grapefruit, caramel, dark chocolate. Taste is sweet, plum/raisin, herbal, chocolate, vinous, floral/grapefruit, caramel. Low carbonation, sticky full body. A hodgepodge of flavors, the net effect of which is a whole that’s less than the sum of its parts. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jan 24, 2008 Deep brown in color with a tinge of red. Scents of plum, dark carmel, orange zest and citric hops. The palate shows the hops toward the finish. Nice density in the midpalate which showed nice richness leading toward the dry finish. larstangaa (104), Denmark Jan 15, 2008 Brown/red. Very rich sweet caramel lots! of malts, dark fruits - meets high american IBU (Tasted at the BASMOF Nytårskur 07/08 12-01-2008) IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Jan 13, 2008 Poured a dark mahogany with a fizzy/frothy light tan head. Aroma of sweet grapes, orange juice, and a touch of bitter pine and grapefruit rind. Taste is quite dry with notes of dark fruits and orange rind with perhaps a bit of toffee, quickly getting overwhelmed by alcohol. Finishes dry and a tad metallic without a lot of hops in the background. Decently complex and pretty tasty, though the astringency of the alcohol could have been more controlled. This would have been better with 1-2% less ABV. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 7, 2008 Updated: Aug 18, 2009Pours a clear brown color with a thin light brown head. The aroma is earthy with chocolate, hops and fruits. Flavor of resinous hops, chocolate and bitterness in the end. The body is light with a liquorous texture and gentle carbonation. grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Jan 5, 2008 defintinly has a floral smell and taste. Good all round beer. I guess American Strong Ale fits this one good but the strong is well hidden because alcohol is matched well with the hops. NicerInPerson (337), North of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Jan 2, 2008 The aroma was nicely hoppy with a grassy presence through the large bubbled tan head. As the head fell the aroma became grassy chocolate and a bit of roast with caramel. The aroma was spicy with hops as well and just a bit fruity. The beer poured into the glass crystal clear brown with an amber highlight. The head lasted very long to coat the glass. The flavor was nice with a strong dark chocolate and light roast flavor and a grassy hop bittering and flavor which was also a bit citrusy and spicy. Not quite resinous, but almost. Smooth chocolate and caramel coupled to the citrus made for a nice mid-flavor combination. The finish was ultimately dry with a light lasting grassy/citrus hop flavor into the aftertaste. The body was medium-full with a moderate level of carbonation. The only place that alcohol reared its ugly head was in the warming which occurred post consumption. I can did this beer! 22 ounce bottle. bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 1, 2008 American strong ale??? catagory for beers that have no catagory. Extra points for an alcohol reading to the hundredth decimal point. and extra points for the amazing lacing that followed my drink to the bottom of the glass. real good brew .....give it a try.
