beeranarchist (184), Aalborg, Denmark Aug 28, 2007 Bottle. Dark brown, almost black with a enormous light brown head. Aroma is piney, honey, heather, coffee, fruity and caramel. Nice body, warming alcohol, rather sweet at first but then turns bitter. Hoppy flavour, quite oily, notes of dark fruits, pines, mocha, oranges and wood. A very interresting brew, I think of it as a DIPA with a touch of roasted barley. I hope they make it regular! MesandSim (5789), London, Greater London, England Aug 28, 2007 A Mes rate:
Bottle at RBESG. Can’t see what all the fuss is about myself. Dark body with a slight tan head. Smells of molluscs. Totally over the top in the mouth with nothing even close to finesse. Sickly sweet. Very sticky. Not my thing at all. Magicdave6 (5383), London, Greater London, England Aug 28, 2007 Bottle thanks to Jens, rbesg07. Aroma has lots of pine, quite a bit of fruity yeast and balancing caramalt. Taste is similar syrupy malt character with piny forest hops balancing. jhumphries69 (714), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Aug 26, 2007 22 oz. bomber. Pours an extremely dark brown (almost black) with dark amber highlights and a thick, pillowy, unevenly-bubbled, short-lived, tan foam that leaves thick streaks and spots of lace on the glass. The aroma is very strong and is an interesting mix of alcohol, cocoa powder, vinous malts, and green, grassy hops. The flavor starts malty and sweet with lots of chocolate intertwined beautifully with the smell of sticky, earthy hops. The middle of the tongue picks up lots of dark fruit (prunes, chocolate-covered raisins) and molasses. The finish is full-bodied, is strongly alcoholic, and combines dark roasted, pungent malts with an interesting, fruity hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is seductive: it is full-bodied but lightened by luxurious, creamy bubbles. There is a touch of oiliness around the middle of the tongue. Overall, this beer rocks. It is even better than their past two anniversary beers (which I thought were quite pleasing, too). georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA Aug 24, 2007 Bottle. Dark red with chocolate colored head. Aromas of molasses, raisins, figs, and alcohol. Tastes of bitter chocolate (mocha) and coffee with a thick lasting mouthfeel. A very good beer that we will drink again. Dedollewaitor (3622), Odense, Denmark Aug 23, 2007 Bottle from Barleywine, Copenhagen. Dark brown with lasting white head. Mainly hops in the aroma. Very malty balanced. Dark fruits, caramel & toffee. Good lacings. Very warm with a medium body & a good hoppy dry finish! Nice! tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Aug 22, 2007 Bomber. Pours very, very dark reddish brown with dense tan head. The aroma is very fruity-- tons of candied pineapple, some grapefruit, cherry, lime, and papaya. There are also milder scents of raisin and green wood. The flavor is very piney at first, and an assertive, darker woodiness follows quickly. The initial edge wears off soon and a maltiness reminiscent of molasses and ultra-bitter chocolate moves through the middle of the mouth. Some fruitiness pops out here and there, usually in the form of pineapple or grapefruit. The finish is somewhat dry and woody with a peanut-shell tone to it. Dry nuttiness lingers in the aftertaste. Pretty good brew. Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 22, 2007 Bottle. [Courtesy of Papsoe, thanks Henrik] Large and nice looking creamy beige head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Color was lovely mahogany. Aroma of caramel, hops, fruit with some berries and spice. Seams very aromatic hoppy which would indicate a heavy dry hops process. Very full bodied with an average carbonation, dry and light alcoholic texture. Moderated bitter flavor with light sweet notes. Dry and bitter finish. Very drinkable. 15-08-2007
