| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 17, 2007 Updated: Jun 2, 2009In short: A very fruity and very hoppy (floral) big dark ale. Could almost be called an Imperial India Dark Ale. Very good.
How: Bottle 22oz. Many times.
The look: Dark brown body with a medium beige head.
In long: Medium roastiness level, cake malts, rich caramel, lots of dark fruits (raisins, figs and such), flower petal juice, some alcohol presence, tasty bitterness. Very good. Yet another big american IPA part of this new trend of India Dark Ale except that this one is very over-the-top. Following a new trend and having an attitude… that’s what happens when you’re Fourteen.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 6, 2007 This was really excellent. Many of the big avery beers i’ve had recently were just not ready yet, to much excess alcohol and harsh flavors. This struck great note, rich flavors of dark fruit, caramel, molasses, and chocolate, with a strong hop finish. Complex and delicious with every sip. riversideAK (2792), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jul 3, 2007 Aroma is sweet mocha with a touch of pine from the hops. Pours almost black with a large tan head. Flavor is mostly the coffee sweetness, roastiness, some dried fruit. The hops come in on the backend with a nice piney burst. There is also some metallic notes in the finish. This to me wasnt nearly as complex as many others thought. There was also a touch of alcohol in the finish. Some nice warmth that I feel would be nice during a cold winter. TaktikMTL (2786), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 24, 2007 Deep, dark brown with ruby-red highlights around the edges. Cappuccino-like head; frothy, with tight and small bubbles. Residual lace. Smooth, soft, creamy texture. Dark roast. Multigrain, dark bread. Fresh nuts. Aromatic citrus, perfectly in the background. Dark chocolate ... even had that "sour" quality that high-percentage dark chocolate has. Nice hop presence, and just enough bitterness to cleave off the subtle molasses sweetness. Alcohol hints were welcome, even though it was hidden pretty well. Warming and cozy. Love the image of the Flatirons wearing their winter coat. I see a lot of Flatiron images, and the angle of this photo is unique. The timing on this beer (and its label) couldn’t have been better, as I just made my first outdoor climb last weekend on the First (the Flatiron on the right side of the label).
