| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 4, 2007 From a 22 oz. bomber bottle, bottled in 2007, a blurb along the right side of label, sampled just above cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
A nice looking dark brown Belgian ale appearance, a large creamy, tiny bubbly topped beige head, good retention, slowly dissipates into a thin sudsy lacing, small amount of laced sticking.
A good smelling dark ale, flowery and minty herbal hops, citric fruitiness, earthy and spicy, sweet dark lightly roasted malts.
The carbonation helps provide for a creamy smooth medium body, roasted dark malts, cocoa and coffee, spicy alcohol, warms the palate, the alcohol and the malts mesh together towards the end, spicy dark bread, coffee nutty, dark molasses, dates and raisins, dry leafy, herbal hops that progress to a citric, tangerine rind bitterness, peppery, hop oily, and a dry hoppy, coffee bitter finish. This is an easy sipper that take restraint from quaffing, tasty and balanced, just well done.
This is easily now my favorite anniversary ale from Avery, I can’t wait for the fifteenth.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 1, 2007 Bottle pours a deep brown with a light tan head. Aroma of dark carmel and some spicy yeat notes. Flavor is rich and lithly toaste malts with some over ripe pitted fruits and slight sour yeast slants. Moderate body, lively carbonation and a fairly srtong sharp bitterness. I was thinking a bitter hoppy dopple-weizen-bock. Interesting. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 13, 2008 pours a dark red tinted brown color with a khaki head which leaves behind crazy lacing as it falls. interesting aroma... malty for sure, molasses, spices, orange peel, anise/black licorice, black raisins, grass/herbal/floral hops and the distinct smell of the insides of a fresh black fig. this is a sweet one. not cloying sticky sweet but enough to coat the tongue. flavors are odd as well... like that fruit cake that gets passed around over the holidays because no one actually likes it.... well, i’m the guy that eats it and enjoys it!... molasses, malt, grassy, lots of floral hops, chocolate, ripe black fig seed dryness, anise and an ashy finish. coffee and smoke in the aftertaste. medium to full body. soft and rich mouth feel but the alcohol, bitterness and seedy dryness balance it out. there’s so much going on in this thing!... | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 8, 2008 Bottle. Poured an opaque, deep brown almost black with a slight dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits. Taste of chocolate, molasses, raisins, prunes, a faint hop presence. A complex arrangement of flavors. Sweet and rich mouthfeel. I really liked this one. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 17, 2007 Neat color - initially looks like a dark brown, but further review reveals a deep, dark red color. Light tan head. Musky anise and allspice aroma, with a bit of earthy hoppiness. Spiciness up front in the taste, with anise, cocoa, roast, and alcohol flavors all present. Moderate heat in the finish. A real nice brew, could use some softer edges, but still good. dmac (1497), Toms River, New Jersey, USA

Once again Avery delivers with a unique ber for unique people. Pours an almost solid black with a large light brown frothy head that begs to be drank. Big citrus hop aroma with lots of chocolate in the background, slight pine but mostly an alcohol orange chocolate come to mind as I sniff this beauty. Body is solid with noticable carbonation on the back of my throat a quickly disipating palate and a medium body. Flavor of grapefruit, chocolate, malt, raisin bread and alcohol. Despite my horrible description this is one decent beer!! Go try some for something different for something that works!! redlight (1490), Winter Park, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 19, 2008 I’ve had this young and now rating it after its aged some. Chocolatey malty aroma, i remember the fresher bottle having a lot more hops in the nose. Pours very dark brown with a dense tan head that lasts with thick lacing. Strong malt flavors with strong chocolate and cola like flavors with a somewhat hoppy finish. The younger bottle definitely had stronger hop flavors, but this is really good too. It’s very smooth.
