| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 14, 2007 Updated: Jan 16, 2008Pours a very very dark amber, almost brown color. Light only passes through when held up to a sorce. There was a two-inch thick light brown head that receded and left a sticky ring of lacing as it left. The scent...where to start? Raisins, malt, hops, yeast, caramel, roasted nuts, spice, floral tones...this has it all. It seems like a mix between a Belgian Strong, Dopple Bock and American Strong Ale, but the hops add a nice touch. The mouthfeel is tremendous and nicely coats the palate. The best thing about this beer is the sweetness up front with the hop bitterness in the back. I am going to buy about ten of these and cellar them...what a great beer! elgiacomo (76), Chickamauga, Georgia, USA

Retains a cap down the glass. Big aroma starts with citrusy hops then molasses, raisins, and vanilla. Flavor is excellent, chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, dark fruits, cherries, some hoppy bitterness, a touch of caramel and toffee, and a little something else I can’t quite put my finger on, some spice? Quite complex. Mouthfeel is full with moderate carbonation. Alcohol taste is present, even with two years on the bottle, but it doesn’t surprise me coming from Avery...they never try to hide the alcohol content of their brews. I really love Fourteen, out of the numerous Avery offerings I’ve tried, this is my favorite. Buy it if you can find it! kiscokid (10), Mount Kisco, New York, USA

Color is very dark brown almost black. Smells great. Monster big beer, malty yet not nearly as sweet as expected. Hoppy ending but not an IPA. Really well balanced and well done. I wish I bought two! doubledagger (1), Randers, Denmark does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 23, 2007 Impressive beer.

Tastes just the same except with a strong note of alcohol. Great beer to sip and enjoy. Hops tend to linger at the end. Mostly malts taking over. curly (613), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
