Commercial Description:
This dangerously drinkable garnet beauty is a hop lover's delight. The intense dry-hop nose and the alcohol content are perfectly balanced for a caramel candy-like malt finish. This is a serious beer for serious beer afficionados and it only gets better with age. Cellarable for 3 years.

It poured a slightly hazy dark golden liquid with a medium sized dirty white foam that left allot of lacing. Quite a nice look actually. It had a smell of sweet malt, caramell and wood. There where more smells but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what they where. The mouthfeel was smooth with a thich body. It had a sweet taste of caramell and malt with an alcoholic finish. The flavour was a bit intence just the way I like it. A very nice beer again from Avery, definitely something I want to drink again.

Cask Stillage from the Jug at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center 26/09/2009 Big hop aroma. Golden bronze coloured with a pine fruit flavour. A little dryness in a crisp and bitter lasting malt finish.

Big offwhite head. Ruddy body. Fruity honeyish toffee and caramel aroma with floral sherry aroma. Dry-sweetish papery honey alcoholic taste with peppery spicy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild mouthfeel. Dry chalky alcohollic milky peppery citric aftertaste. Quite harmonic. Good and drinkable. Obviously cellared, and the better for it. (0.65l bottle.)

Ruby colour, creamy beige head, looks very nice, lots of lacing. Aroma is very hoppy, more lika a DIPA than a barley wine, pine, citrus, lemon, grass, straw. Flavour reminds me of Hercules, big bite, pine, lemon grapefruit resting on amalt backbone. This is good!Mouthfeel is smooth and sticky. I would never have pegged this for a BW nevertheless it is great! Serving type: bottle

Bomber. Sweet aroma with floral hops. Great flavor alcohol content hidden very well behind the sweet caramel and hops. Damn good beer

Dark amber/light red garnet in color. Nice one-finger head which dissipates rapidly to almost nothing. Fairly good lacing. Big sweet maltiness mixes with sharp spicey hoppiness. Fresh yeasty bread. Nice pine and slightly pepperey. Spicey/pepperey hops bite that is quickly balanced by a sweet caramel malt punch. Pretty big pine and grapefruit notes. Not quite the malty profile that I expected for a barleywine style. I think I’ll set a couple of bottles in the cellar to revisit in a year or two and see what happens to them. Feels good, yet kind of lighter than expected, for the style. Would benefit from abit more body. This is quite a drinkable bottle of beer. If I wanted a barleywine, though, I might reach for something else, before this one.

22oz bomber from grape & gourmet. pours a pure, copper-gold with a soft, light tan head and solid, sticky lacing. aroma is excellent and definitely hop-forward with big citrus notes of orange and grapefruit, big pine resins, and a bit of grass with some slight berry notes backed by sweet toffee, caramel, and dark malts. flavor is nice as well but a little bit more tame in terms of the hop notes with mostly orange citrus, bitter grassy notes, pine needles and earthy leaves, with a definite candy malt notes, toffee, and vanilla coming in on the finish without being overly sweet. palate is full bodied but highly drinkable thanks to the hops with a nice warming touch of alcohol. overall, a nice hoppy BW.

Bottle. Amber color with a slight chill haze. A nice sticky head leaves some lacings. The smell is hoppy with notes of grapefruit, pine-needles, hop resins and malts. Hints of sweet fruits. The flavor is sweet at first, before quite an impressive onslaught of bitter hops. It’s definitely hop forward wit prominent notes of pine-needles, grape fruits and tobacco leaves. But the malts shine through every now and then with hints of caramel, dark fruits and toffee. The finish is bitter with powerful hop aromas. The body is full, as expected. But the texture is quite easy on the palate, and in general the beer goes down really easy. A good beer, but I’m wondering if this one isn’t more of a DIPA than a Barley wine. Will be fun to see what some cellaring will do to it.
