Aroma of hops and caramel. The flavor is hoppy although not as much as it has been. Lots of caramel too. WesKBob (321), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 16, 2008 Pours a deep copper color with a moderate white head. Aroma and flavor is definitely hoppy by barleywine standards, but not overpowering. Like most Avery beers, the flavor is sweeter than most representatives of the style with sweet maltiness. A little thin but very nice. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA

Finish is surprisingly hoppy. Man, barley wines are so different and complex, I can’t get a good hold on them, but I like em. alexsdad06 (1094), Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 13, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear dark copper color with a smaller off white head. The aroma has some caramel malt, but tends to the hoppy side of things. Orange citrus and fruit are what stand out. The flavor , much like the nose, tends toward the hops more than the malt. Orange citrus, floral hop bitterness, and fruit blend fairly well with the expected caramel malt backbone. I even picked up a slight hint of nuts. The alcohol is warming and adds to the experience. Although I generally like the sweeter, maltier barleywines, this one was solid. StFun (534), Indiana, USA

Lots of malt, tons of carmel, load of hops. All balanced greatly. Aroma, flavor and everything is strong. Aroma is almost like candy. Flavor is all that and more. The hops stand out the most, but the malt and carmel backbone swirl in the background and hold everything together. Totally drinkable, i wanted more, more, more. Nice warmth. Texture is smooth and thick, almost not like drinking beer at all. Not quite Behemoth, but pretty damn close, and less than half the price to boot. Oink Oink. kyzr (1123), Belgrade, Montana, USA

Flavor is malt filled with a nice bit of sweetness that has great texture. Good warmth from the alcohol with a bit of a hoppy finish. TheShat (131), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 2, 2008 Bottle pours rich amber brown. Frothy head laces nicely. Fantastic aroma that is inviting. Rich malt flavor with a nice amount of sweetness. The finish is nice and dry with some hop kick and alcohol. This is a very good barley wine. Nik925 (305), California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Sep 2, 2008 Great appearance and aroma! Nice and dry, especially for a barley wine, which also lends towards the great mouthfeel. Extremely well made, lacks the cloying sweetness found in a lot of barley wines. The best barley wine I have had in a long time.
