Don’t know why, so one trip to the store and a few dollars lighter...voila. Got the bottle chilled and went to town. I was glad I did, because this was a really nice barleywine. Sweet, hoppy, boozy all at the same time.
The beer pours out a reddish/amber color, mostly transparent with a nice thick off-white head that had some staying power. Aroma was juicy grapefruit/citrusy, piney hops and sweet malts really meld well together. There was just a hint of alcohol in the nose too. Flavor was hops, hops and more hops. Sweet caramel-like hops kept things from going too far overboard, alcohol-like finish with sticky mouthfeel. Very Bigfoot like I thought. Delicious." General66 (171), Streator, Illinois, USA

Pours a deep amber color with a small white head that disappears quickly. I let this one warm up quite a bit before smelling it. When I did I was hit with a lot of hops, caramel malts, and some citrus fruits. The taste was dominated by a strong hop character with hints of suggary malts and a bitter aftertaste. Of the barleywines that I have had, this is probably my favorite so far. I am looking forward to trying some of my other BW’s that I have aging... fg8080 (37), San Diego, California, USA

Even with some cellaring, the first thing I noticed about this beer was an intensely resiny hoppy aroma, followed by lots of sweet caramelly malt. Tastes of sweet malt, lots of bitterness is there, some resiny chewy hoppy hints. This reminds me more of a cellared IIPA than a barleywine. johndavidj99 (123), Township, Maine, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 18, 2008 Pound for pound one of the best barleywines on the market. That is if you like your barleywines bending the line between IIPA and barleywine. This is just a tad bit on the bigger, aggresive hoppy side for the style, but still having siad that it is delicious. Lots of lighter fruits in this one, grapefruit, peach and tangerine, but has some nice candied sugar sweetness as well, some heat from the alcohol, but overall pretty well balanced, you feel it more than you can taste it.
