Very thick interesting mouthfeel, definitely like liquid bread. Taste is very sweet with a caramel like taste leading to a bitter dry end. A little too sweet, which is what I expect from barley wines. MarinaMarket (34), Washington, USA

I guess I expect to get punched in the gut when i drink this style, and love it! alexanderj (2269), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 4, 2009 Bottle; poured a hazy amber/reddish color with a medium sized tan/khaki head. Aroma of caramel, sweet malt, with a bit of yeast, flowers and citrus. Flavor had a nice amount of sweetness and bitterness; not too much of each. Alcohol well hidden and it was quite balanced, with an amount of hops that balances, rather than overpowers the beer. Caramel and earth predominantly in the flavor with a bit of fruit. Really solid barleywine. FatPhil (3481), Espoo, Finland

Sickly sweet stodgy malt porridge aroma. Slimy palate. Nondescript pile of big bold hops and stupidly sweet. Even though it’s 2 years old it’s still sticky and stodgy. It insults the "barley wine" style - it’s just a boozy ale. However, it’s not horrific.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 26, 2009 Bomber. Pours a viscous ruby-tan with HUGE white head. Nose is candied sugar, caramel, raisins, and the ripest of apples. Tastes of figs, pears, apples, caramel, with just a hint of clove on the back of the palate. The hops are notably at the forefront for a barleywine. Not the best of the style that I’ve encountered, but damn fine. Will definitely buy again. Butters (1651), Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 25, 2009 Bomber split with scottyp at woody’s. Pours a ever so slightly hazy maroon with great tan head considering it’s a barleywine. Big matly plum nose with a little peat. Flavor adds a distinctive citric hop bitterness, with a spicy hop and huge malt backbone. Medium chewy body with good warming and a syrupy sweet, yet hop bitter finish. Good label, good price. Very nicely done LearninBeer (209), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 24, 2009 The color is caramel, golden brown with a thick body. The aroma is sweet malts, caramel, cookie and maybe a touch of honey. The head is light brown, creamy, mostly diminishing with excellent lacing. The body is murky. The initial flavor is a little bitter, not a whole lot of flavor at first. Then you get some citrus and a hint of the malts. No alcohol, creamy body good feel a little more age for the malts to do some more work. KnN (743), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 23, 2009 Poured a hazy reddish yellow color with a thick fluffy white head. Aroma reminded me right off the bat of a sweet malty Double IPA. There was some tasty hop action going in in this one. Flavor was like a DIA with the malt turned up to 9 and the hops turned down to 6. Pretty tasty overall and not at all what I was expecting.
