Commercial Description:
In the 1700's one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado's hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

I rated this beer after rating a bunch of really bad beers. I may have to come back and re-rate it one day, because I’m sure I gave it a few extra points for not sucking as bad as the last beers I drank. Sweet citrus aroma. Grapefruit, honey, lemon zest, wonderful hops. Clear elegant orange, tiny patchy head. Bold grapefruit flavor, followed by a pleasant bitter mouth feel, with a smooth dry hop finish. Palate is nice and smooth with just the right dryness for an IPA.

One ofm y favorite IPA’s. Not too overly hoppy, but definately flavorfull. The color of the beer is pleasant and the taste is sophisticated as well.

Pours a pale orange color with a full frothy head that lasts the whole time and leads to some serious lacing. Strong hoppy grapefruit/citrus aroma and a refreshing hoppy flavor. A very tasty IPA.

Avery IPA Cask - The bartender at the Flying Saucer pumped this "unfiltered" beer out of some sort of a cask. I don’t understand it but he said it refined the taste. It was very smooth and had a very pleasant fresh grapefruit hop aroma.

Mar. 2007 - Apart from the huge head which lasted the whole beer and the amazing lacing, this was a pretty unremarkable brew. Ugly dirty yellow color, an off skunky funky smell, which went away after a while and yielded to a typical grapefruit odor. Flavor was strong citrusy grapefruit, some sweet malts and a slight grassyness at the end that was not altogether pleasant. Not overly bitter (not hopwater), but nothing else really of note to comment about.

A real nice india pale ale with character. it pours with a little foam but quickly thins. Some lacing, good color. Aroma is strong and very sweet, floral and pine, yum! Palate is just a bit rough with perfect carbonation. THe flavor was a good contrast of sweet and bitter, but the bitter was too dirty and hit too hard in the back of the middle of the tongue. Overall, shows high quality but not for me.

After i dumped it into an IPA glass it foamed up and thined out just as quick, but it did maintain an thin head. There was also some minor laceing left along the sides of the glass. The aroma was strong and hoppy aroma with some hints of caramel malt. As i took a sip the flavor was very bitter and the finish was exactly the same. Bitter hops and a full bodied beer that is fresh and ready to be drank when ever possible.
