mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Dec 14, 2007 12 oz bottle poured into tulip- poured transparent golden yellow gold, light carbonation, nice bubbly lacing head. Aroma of heavy floral, appealing. Hits the mouth with a thin defined body, hops from start to finish- which are not overpowering, notes of sweetness from start to finish. Nice change of pace IPA- not a steamroller! walter (359), Staunton, Virginia, USA Dec 13, 2007 Draft, Baja Bean, Staunton VA. Bright gold with white head, a bit light compared to a lot of IPAs, but very pretty. Really fresh hops in the nose, mostly orange and lemon citrus, with some herbal notes in the background. Flavor is again a hop fiesta, really fresh and juicy, over a nicely sweet light malt. Medium hops bitterness throughout balances everything nicely. Full and creamy, with a citrusy aftertaste. This was just delightful, really nicely done! Sanchex (223), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 10, 2007 My first non-extreme Avery beer and it doesn’t disappoint. Very well balanced with an apricot aroma with mild orange peel undertones. Flavor is of apricot, marmalade, , citrusy hops, and mellow sweet malt. Finish is a little on the sweet side. Cheers! Walkowiak (21), Northville, Michigan, USA Dec 6, 2007 Bottle. Poured a cloudy, deep gold with a thick head. Smelled extremely funky with a hoppiness. Aroma was not good. Tasted of citrus and grass; not very bitter. I ranked it last in a test against Dogfish Head 60 Minute (1st), Harpoon (2d), and Goose Island (3rd). Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Dec 5, 2007 THOUGHTS: Intense aroma. Overall a little one sided for me. It’s almost all hops. Could use a little malt to balance things out. It reminded me of Hop Wallop.I was starting to like IPA but this is a fine example of why I didn’t like IPAs in the first place and why I prefer Double IPAs. Gets slightly better when warmer.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a flat, light orange (looked a little unnatural) with a small, white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was heavy to harsh resin and citrus ( grapefruit and orange) hops. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and moderately bitter, while th finish was heavily to harshly bitter with a long duration. The flavor was all resin and citrus hops. The light to medium body was dry but slightly syrupy with rather fizzy carbonation and a very metallic finish. direwolf600 (30), Philadlephia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 4, 2007 I agree with most reviews. Good pale ale, nothing great, but easily above average. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA Dec 4, 2007 Updated: Mar 21, 2009Very astringent. It tastes to me like it used only a single type of hops and malts. There just isn’t very much flavor balance here. Super dry and not very refreshing
eyesandsmiles (179), Mission Viejo, California, USA Nov 28, 2007 Somewhat on par with other decent Ipas. Better than the bad ones, not as good as the exceptional ones.
