Commercial Description:
In the 1700's one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado's hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Decent enough IPA, very much in the English mold. Quite balanced and lively, with a moderate hop presence. Couold use a bit more assertiveness, but I could see people turning to this when they are hopped out. Solid.

I hope I am rating this properly, as I noted the rules dont allow a separate listing for the cask version of an existing beer. So this was a cask version that was apparently dry hopped with Apollo hops. The waiter was very excited about the aroma and said that the entire cold room smelled great when they tapped it. So this is very hoppy. And the aroma was lovely, of citrus and grapefruit. But the appearance was very off-putting, very cloudy. The taste initially was pleasing of very strong citrus fruits, but the underlying beeriness was missing and the aftertaste not "more-ish". In a blind tasting I am not even sure you would have identified this as a beer, maybe more like a grapefruit soda. The bitterness left an unpleasant feeling in the mouth. I understand that this is for hopheads only, but by not using more restraint and better hopping techniques you are ruining what might be a good beer. I have had plenty of dry hopped beers and they dont need to end up so thick and cloudy.

(Sample Date: 6/12/2009 Source:Capital Ale House - Downtown) Spicy citrusy hop nose. Clear orange golden with moderate fluffy white head. Citrusy spicy hop flavor with supporting caramel sweetness. Medium body and mouthfeel. Medium fairly bitter finish. Solid IPA with good balance.

Great on draft, which ive had the pleasure of trying at the flying saucer in ft worth. Smells great, good on the palate as most IPAs are. flavor in spades, highly bitter and hoppness overload. clean and crisp.

Avery I.P.A poured a golden crisp color; it had moderate foam: head was about an inch. It smelt moderately of grassy pine tasting hops. The carbonation is not over the top or overly flat; it has perfect carbonation for an American style IPA. The taste remained loyal to the smell; it was crisp and refreshing. This I.P.A had very mild malty bite, which allowed the flavors of the hops to be showcased. There was a slight citrus sourness followed by a moderate bite of hops. This belongs like Stone IPA in the ranks of America’s best I.P.A’s. I cannot find anything really to complain about, concerning the beer. This is an American IPA which does not try to be a double or imperial IPA; it is simply a simple nearly flawless IPA

bottle 12 oz. - golden pour with small white head. Aroma - citrus, mango and grapefruit. Just plain hop goodness!!! Flavor - pungent hops with good balance of malt. Very nice smooth citrus taste. Palate - medium somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Above average carbonation with mild bitter finish. Overall - Excellent IPA, First taste is top notch with average finish, a little soapy!

My friend BeerBaron617 picked up a sixer of this at the store down the street to share. He took a sip and thought it was a bit bitter, seems to think it has been sitting on the shelf for a while. It looks nice, a darkish yellow with a foamy white head that leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. Aroma is not very a bit strong for me, not enough citrus in there. Taste is very bitter. I don’t think I am having the best of luck with Avery products :(
