GriffinAvenue (395), Winchester, Massachusetts, USA Feb 24, 2007 Bottle. Medium orange in color. Limited to no head. Lightly hoppy with noticeable high alcohol taste. Very smooth and dry. Evaporates quickly Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark Feb 24, 2007 Bottle [Tasting @ Per 23-02-2007]. Head was small fizzy white and quickly goon. Fair lacing. Body was clear sparkling with a pale amber hue. Aroma was lovely pine, elder flower, grapefruit and other citrus notes. Some caramel and grain could be detected in mouth. Medium to full bodied with an average carbonation and a dry texture. Nice hope bitter flavor with a blend of sweet malt. Not as bitter as expected. As described the malty sweet finish is evident. Solid IPA. cohiba73 (11), Texas, USA Feb 23, 2007 I was at Specs and decided to try it without knowing anything about this beer. When I got home and tried the first one I was floored. Strong hoppy aroma, nice foamy head. The first drink was fresh and piney with hints of grapefruit. Finishes nice and malty. I had been drinking Dogfish Head 60 IPA lately and this is probably equal or better. Great beer. JohnnyJ (1283), Carlsbad, California, USA Feb 20, 2007 Very nice floral and fresh hoppy aroma. Flavors of piney hops, grapefruit, citrus, and some caramel. A nice drinkable IPA. Stefano (1321), Esbjerg, Denmark Feb 20, 2007 Clear light yellow orange with a nice lasting white head. Floral hop aroma. The flavor is a sharp grapefruit dominated hop oriented thing, with just barely enough body to hold up to it. glennmastrange (807), hobe sound, Florida, USA Feb 19, 2007 Bottle. Lots of pine resin and a small amount of citrus in the initial aroma. There was just a slight hint of toasted malt and dough. Both acidic and bitter initial flavor with a long bitter finish. Carbonation is soft and the texture is quite dry. This is about the driest IPA I’ve tasted yet. A good drinking beer. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 18, 2007 Approximately 4 oz. sample from a 12 oz. bottle at an American IPA tasting hosted by tennisjoel. This was the ninth of ten IPAs that we tried. Fascinating, unique aroma features peach, apricot, tangerine, pomegranate, pear, and other fruit notes, all of which are also present in the flavor. Classic pine fragrance from Northwest U.S. hops. There is also an almost curry-like smell. Pours a clear, dark gold with a small amount of short-lasting white head. The floral, fruity, sugary flavor is sweet, but the sweetness seems to derive from the hops rather than the malt. Full-bodied but lively in the palate. Avery IPA is one of a kind and reminiscent of a double IPA in complexity. It gets an extra point in the overall score for uniqueness. It finished third on my list in the tasting, behind only Surly Furious and Two Hearted. 2beerguys (299), North Shore, Massachusetts, USA Feb 14, 2007 The IPA pours a cloudy amber color and settles to a light amber color with a clear body. After a short period of time, the body became hazy. The massive, off-white fizzy head almost overflowed the glass and has great lacing. The nose detected a strong presence of sweet hops with hints of grass. This hoppy aroma was rather harsh, but in a good way. The initial moderate biter taste had a healthy hop presence and was followed by a strong presence of malts for a mildly bitter finish. We were quite pleased with this very balanced beer. The light to medium body has a strong carbonation presence and leaves an oily texture on the palate.
Comments: WOW, I can smell this from here – Ian, right after opening the bottle.
