Commercial Description:
In the 1700's one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado's hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Pours a clear golden color with a medium white head. Good aroma of citrusy hops. Medium intensity flavor of citrusy hops with caramel and a mild bitter finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Not bad but I would have thought that an IPA by Avery would bring more lupulin fireworks.

Pours with a white, frothy head covereing a clear gold body. Ultra floral, hoppy aroma with a decent amout of yeast in the aroma. Taste isn’t too bitter, but not too much taste. It is actually a bit watery for 6%.

This brew is a lightly cloudy pale orange color with a thin off-white head. Sticky patches of lacing. Good amount of grapefruit and hops in the nose. Medium-bodied with a tart mandarin orange and hops flavor, along with a decent malt backbone. The finish is hoppy and lingering. Pretty impressive when it’s all said and done.

A nice floral/citrus hopped IPA with a nice balance, fresh hoppy finish, and nice grapefruit finish. Pours amber with a decent white silky head. A quick malt to the start with a good bitterness in the end.

Bitter like a Pyramid IPA. OK stuff. This brew lacked balance and complexity.

Bottle. Clear, deep golden colour with a rocky white head. Powerful grapefruit aroma, a hint of flowers and little else. Sweet caramel start, offset by the hop bitterness, yielding a dry finish. Citrus hoppiness takes over in the middle, but it is still a quite well-balanced beer. Soft texture, low carbonation, above-average body. It drives down its hoppiness behind its rounded malty flavours, a proof of the craftmanship behind it.

Draft at the Dog and Pony. One of the better piney IPAs, no doubt. Big bubbly white head on a clear golden amber body. Steady rising carb, though not a surging rush of it by any means. Crisp, clean pine, grapefruit, grass, and a hint of sweet malt on the nose. Medium body and tingly, active carb, though not too much at all for the style. Very dimensional and rich hop notes throughout the palate. Malt is there but it’s really just to encourage the hops if they start to feel shy. Wonderful stuff.

(Rating #966)
