Commercial Description:
In the 1700's one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado's hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

(Rating #966)

Glowing orange with a frothy, lasting head. Lively nose. Lovely mouthfeel: not too thick and syrupy and not too light. Sweet, cookie malts accented by very charismatic hops (floral, piney, grapefruity). Dry and bitter finish. Wonderful IPA!

Clear golden pour. Pretty stinky footy aroma mixed with piney hops. Poor malts underlie a nice load of hops, leaving this unbalanced. Clearly this rating goes against the general consensus here, so I may have got a contaminated bottle. I’ll have to try this again.

Clear golden color, medium white head and a fair amount of lacing. Middle of the road pungent-ness. The aroma is solid Chinook type hops. This beer has the same hop aroma and hop taste profile as Stone’s Arrogant Bastard Ale although maybe toned down just a bit. But this beer does not have the same malt backbone. I taste a slight sweet caramel from lightly roasted malt grains. This is a really tasty IPA. Nice job (again!) Avery.

Smells like a million other American IPAs. Tastes like a million other American IPAs with a Northwest hopface. Perfectly fine as a beer, and above-average for sure. Nice woodsy finish that might help me identify it in a lineup.

Pours a deep golden amber with a nice fluffy egg white head and some great sticky lacing. Aroma is slightly medicinal, hoppy and finally dirty dishwater, also some peppermint and herbs upon second smell. This is a great over the top hoppy IPA with some very fresh lively acidity, citrusy zing and just slightly under-balanced on the malt side, but it works for it, as it comes through in a toasty, bready aftertaste. The finish is very crisp and dry, leaving you wanting more. Very nice and clean!

Orange and light tan head. Fuity citrus flavors at the start, then a sturdy chalky flavor all the way to the finish. Maybe a little mint, as well. Clean finish.

12oz. Bottle: Huge hop aroma. Hints of apricot, citrus, and resin. No malt scent. Light brown/copper color. Clear, but looks a little thin too. Sparkling. Huge, dense, off-white head. Great lacing. Tastes of citrus and hops. Also quite piney. Very tasty and quite bitter. Light body. A little thin. Malty-sweet, slightly dry finish that lasted. Overall, a really good IPA.
