Commercial Description:
In the 1700's one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado's hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Bottle: Translucent orange hued golden, huge rocky white head, clumpy lacing, lively carbonation.   Rich hop oriented nose.   Slight pepper.   Solid hop bitterness, slightly sweet, even softer citrus peel.   Malt background is just enough to balance out the hop aspect.   This one is quite good, bitter yet not totally mouth watering.   Fairly well rounded body, moderate mouthfeel.   Clean finish, not overbearing bitterness at all, while remaining quite flavorful.   Solid example of the style.   I’m glad its finally in Washington.   I would love to try this on tap.

Good floral aroma to this one like walking into a flower shop and taking a good wiff. Body was a golden cololor. White head that was decent. Citrus hop flavor that most IPA have was good. Cool and crisp on the palate. Great beer after a day of work.

Smells isn’t too hoppy or floral or citrusy, but okay. Nice meringue head that tastes good. Flavor is dominated by bittering hops, too much so. Still the very aftertaste is somewhat smooth and enjoyable. Good, just not great.

Bottle from Bello Vino in Ann Arbor. Nice firey golden-amber with a small white head. Aroma has great herbal tea and citrus notes. Nice smoothmouthfeel. Big, crisp hops in the flavour, balanced with a soft malt backing. Good stuff, would be a great session beer if I could get it around here.

Golden coloured beer if i've ever seen golden, with a dense white head. Smells of citrus, sweet pineapple and very fragrant hops. A very nice aroma, and definately mouth-watering. Piney in the hops and sweet with the malt. Medium-bodied; The tates lasts for a long-time and the hops are the primary flavour (which they should be). Aftertaste full of the piney hops and bitter the mouth...a real treat for Hop-heads like me! Overall one of the better American IPAs. Pick one up if you can find it! Even though i've had this beer before, I still enjoy posting new reviews for the same beer. I bougtht this single 12 ounce bottle at Chevy Chase Wines & Spirits in Washington, D.C. I sampled this beer on 30-August-2003. Rating for this tasting: 9,4,9,4,16. Previous Tasting:
Light in colour, very hoppy in the nose...citrusey and hoppy taste...light-bodied, but enjoyable!

12 oz bottle pours golden with an offwhite head that lingers and laces well. Aroma is mostly grapefruit, grass, pine, and a touch of malt. Flavor is more of tangerine, a touch of grapefruit, and some caramel malts. Finishes fairly bitter with a little aftertaste. Balanced pretty well on the palate. The hops and malts go hand and hand in this beer. A pretty nice IPA I enjoyed it.

On tap GABF 02: Burnt resin aroma, clear light amber color, fizzy oily mouthfeel. Besides the burnt aroma/taste, I enjoyed this beer.

Nice clear copper color that is crowned by a good lasting beige head. Aromas of citrus and hops waft from the glass as I pour it. A light grassy hay aroma (but only the good aspects), there is a decent amount of hop aroma to this beer. It is well carbonated, and gets quite lively when swirled in the glass. Great malt flavor that accompanies the hoppy flavor and bitterness. A malty sweet flavor with hints of biscuits and caramel malts. Quite a lingering bitterness in the finish. A good solid IPA, not quite over the top, which is good because you don't always want that. There is a ton of balanced flavors in this beer. Both the malt and hops are competing for attention, though the hops are the definite center piece. Definitely drink this beer on the warm side of cool, it allows more of the flavor to open up.
