Commercial Description:
In the 1700's one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado's hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Appearance: clear, pale orange color, fine, if short, off-white head. Aroma: bristling with pine, citrus, grapefruit, pineapple. Quite a bit of hoppiness in this nose! Taste: fierce and fiery hop bitterness right up front on the palate, but much appreciated and quite delightful. Body is about medium and of sufficient heft, although malt is a bit lean in this IPA, abd the hops continue to stand tall in the saddle throughout the drink. But that’s what I like, li’l ol’ hophead, me. Relentless flavor, tasty, tasty. Real humdinger of an IPA that I’d gladly return to, anytime.

Bottle. Golden color, creamy long lastinghead. Strong floral and catty hop aroma with notes of raisins and apple. Strong citrusy and raisin-like hop flavor. Fruity-hoppy and bitter finish. Has some symptoms of oxidisation.

Golden with a touch of orange, decent head. Aroma of grapefruit and cat piss, with a bit of sweetness. The flavor is a sharp grapefruit dominated hop oriented thing, with just barely enough body to hold up to it. Not bad, but didn't hold up to the hop blast as well as I would have liked.

Grainy aroma with an earthiness and mild DMS hints. Aroma is of English hops. Perhaps this is an English IPA? Transparent light golden color with frothy white head. Somewhat sweet and mildly astringent in the middle. Decent maltiness and a decent bitter hoppiness. Not as hoppy as the description leads you to believe, though. A solid beer, but doesn’t really stand out or blow me away.

10.10.04 12oz bottle thanks to springslicker. Beer colored pour with ample, sticky head. Giant c-hop grapefruit goodness aromas, I love it already. Super sharp hops, lemon/grapefruit citrus, dominate the flavor with just enough maltiness to remind me it’s still beer. A very nice standard offering from a brewer that I often think goes a couple steps too far. This is Avery’s 60min IPA (or vice versa), the beer that showcases great craft and still a pandering to the beer geeks. A centerpiece. If I lived in CO, this would be a go-to brew. Could I be any more redundant?

Gold-copper, color with a fair amount of carbonation. Strong flowery hop aroma. Some orange and a hint of spice as well. Flavor is more piney and resinous. Could be better balanced. Hops linger forever through the finish.

Pungent kind bud hoppy aroma. very light tea color with a large fluffy white head. Big citrusy hop flavors, but you can taste a lot of malty/grain flavors beneath that. Finishes with a bit of floral sweetness and then leaves a bitter aftertase. A nicely done IPA.
