Commercial Description:
In the 1700's one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado's hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

On tap at the bar again smoke kept me from appreciating the aroma as much as I should have. It had a smooth fruity, malt start but finished with a hard pleasant bitter. Not much of a head but did have a nice clinging lace. All that said the bottom line is that this was a good beer that I will try again from a bottle and probably re-rate.

12 oz. bottle pours a clear amber hue with a nice off white head. Has a strong grapefruit aroma. Nice medium body. The taste is a strong grapefruit bitter flavor with a malt sweetness that sneaks in the back door. Finishes with a bittersweet after taste. Very nice.2003

Bottled. Medium golden color upon pouring. Forest like piney aroma. Lots of bitterness. Piney bitterness up front. Quite spicy as well. Some citric qualities are present. A rather bitter finish.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear medium gold with a thick, frothy head. Lots of carbonation bubbles. Pleasant aroma dominated by graprefruit with some pine notes as well. The flavor is also dominated by grapefruit. If there’s malt in this beer, I didn’t taste any of it, as this brew is decidedly hoppy. This is truly a beer made "for hopheads."

Bottle from a bodega in Brooklyn. Orange body with rocky head. Hoppy nose. Taste of citrus, hops and pine. Sweet and grapefruity finish. Hoppy heaven.
