Commercial Description:
In the 1700's one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado's hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Bottle. Pleasant floral hop aroma. Flavor is well balanced between malt and hops, but the hop flavor is well pronounced (and tasty).

Clear, golden amber appearance with an average size white head and good lacing. Heavy dose of resinous hops in the aroma with a herbal note on the edge. Citrusy hop taste, dominated by grapefruit. Medium-bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel. "Malty finish"? Maybe buried deep on the aftertaste. But the only balance seems to be with the variety of hops. Crisp, bitter, lingering finish. Very drinkable.

On tap at Hollingshead Deli. Pours a deep caramel gold color with an even head of soapy ivory. The bouquet brings out a touch of brown sugar coated apricots sweetened with a fruitiness of muscato grapes and yellow peaches. Yeah, there’s some citrusy hop tones there as expected with an IPA, but the light fruits are really what make this one different. Light and acceptable, but not strong or complex enough to be memorable. Rich, medium-full bodied mouthfeel thats much heavier and thicker than expected. This malty entourage is highlighed by plenty of citrusy hops, but the dominant character is still some brown sugar sweetness and sticky caramel. Clean, mildly hoppy finish.

This was a pleasant surprise. Big floral and fruity aromas. I think there is a hop that this totally reminds me of. It may be simcoe but I need to find out for sure. Very fruity, piney, and pungent aromas and flavors. Very similar to Sweetwater’s IPA. Pours a great golden color, so much that you wouldn’t think this was an IPA.

Pleasant IPA. The kind of nice, hops-driven beer to get you through a night with friends or a good basketball game. A rare Colorado treat.

12 oz bottle, snifter. Lots of grapefruit and pine in the aroma. Beautiful sparkling gold-orange body with terrific lacing. Lightly sweet, moderately acidic flavor becomes a heavily bitter, heavily acidic finish. Medium body, creamy, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: hops bring forth a spicy astringency that I’m not too wild about.

Huge aromatic hop aroma quite orangey, very nice. Feels nice on the tongue, lowish, but persistent carbonation. Good caramel malt flavor. Nice lingering finish with malt and hop flavors coming together as one.

12oz - Subtle floral hop citrus aroma with a touch of carmel. Yellowish copper color with a small quickly fading head that leaves decent lacing. Like the aroma, the hoppiness kinda sneak up on you about 2 seconds after each sip, but it isn’t real strong. A nice balance between the hop and malt makes it quite smooth and easy to drink. A good session brew, but not a "great" IPA.
