Commercial Description:
In the 1700's one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado's hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Really potent hops aroma and a very strong bitter taste. Smooth palate and a very intoxicating aroma. Well balanced.

Very nice flowery aroma with rose and grapefruit. A bit artificial though. Normal beer colour with a red tint. Small white head. Nice palate, thick. Wide area of bitter flavour which do not interract very well. A bit disturbed, un-balanced.

Poured an effervescent golden with a large fizzy white head. Nice aroma of some grapefruit and pine needles with a bit of candy sugar. Taste is lighty sweet with nuances of grapefruit and pine, leading to a fairly clean and lightly hoppy finish that is only slightly dry. Though this isn’t bursting at the seems wtih hop flavor, it has nice hop flavor and is very drinkable.

Mar. 2007 - Apart from the huge head which lasted the whole beer and the amazing lacing, this was a pretty unremarkable brew. Ugly dirty yellow color, an off skunky funky smell, which went away after a while and yielded to a typical grapefruit odor. Flavor was strong citrusy grapefruit, some sweet malts and a slight grassyness at the end that was not altogether pleasant. Not overly bitter (not hopwater), but nothing else really of note to comment about.

Pours a slightly hazy deep gold color with a small but lasting head. Sweet caramel malt aroma up front, taken over by pine and citrus peel hops. Flavor is pretty evenly balanced, but goes to the pine hops on the finish. Nice lingering bitterness. Smooth on the palate for an IPA. Pretty good stuff.

Found this one bottled in Sycamore, Illinois. Another great brew from Avery. Somewhat cloudy, dark orange pour with a foamy, off-white head. Complex nose, some grains but mostly floral. Citrus in the taste, some orange and lemon, along with the standard bitterness from hops, roses and raisins. Complex finish. This was a keeper.

Bottle. Warm golden with bubbly head. Lovely fruityness - lychees, peaches, apricot, heavily bitter, medium bodied. I liked this.
